A little feature for myself (just because this might very well become my most viewed deviation): I do art trades and take requests feel free to ask!

This is for *Skailla 's contest, with the themes "Fight for it!" and maybe "enemies". I also tried to find a suitable song for this picture and story but couldn't figure out a thing. Oh well, I guess it's okay

I have to say, darn, it's difficult to draw fire! And specially the shading on characters in front of it. I got some help from this fire tutorial: [link] (I improvised a lot though, it wasn't the same with Corel Painter than Photoshop )

There's a "little" backstory for this, I know it's long, but please enjoy!

Fight for it

One day, Sansenite and Wolpy were sent to hunt some rabbits for lunch for the pack. The main reason why Wolpy was taken along was that the pack wanted him out of their way. He walked by the other wolf, glancing uneasily at him all the time. He really hated the Beta, and the Beta hated him at least as much. All the way both remained quiet, causing a somewhat awkward silence.

At the rabbit hill, the two lay down to wait for the rabbits to come out. They chose a place downwind where the prey couldn’t see or smell them, but even though they waited, nothing happened. Wolpy sensed something weird and started to feel uncomfortable.
“Hey, I think someth-” he started, but Sansenite had already stood up and was sniffing the air around them. Wolpy joined him.
“There’s something weird going on there”, Sansenite said undoubtedly, pointing across the rabbit hill, “We should go check it”

Sansenite nodded to his own words and leaped out of their cover.
“Come on!” he yelled, “We don’t have the whole day!”

They ran all the way almost to the edge of the territory. Suddenly, a terrifying sight made them both stop and stare.

The forest was on fire. The smoke stood up to the skies, painting them blood red, the giant flames surrounded the trees, making them fall down.

“We have to warn the pack!” Sansenite shouted and turned around to leave. Wolpy hesitated. He thought he had heard a voice through the flames, a desperate call for help. But there was no way of surviving from the middle of that burning hell. Wolpy had already turned around to follow Sansenite, when hearing the voice again made him freeze and listen very carefully. And this time, it was clear.

Help.

Wolpy’s eyes widened as he recognized the sound.
“Dawnsoul!” he yelled as loud as possible, turned around and immediately, without thinking anything, rushed into the forest, searching for the location of the voice.
“You idiot!” Sansenite growled and ran after Wolpy, “She is not there! No one is!”
She can’t be there. She mustn’t be. Sansenite sounded angry, but inside, his heart ached when he heard Dawnsoul’s voice. When he finally found Wolpy, he was lifting Dawnsoul’s unconscious body to his back.
“Don’t worry. She is alive”, Wolpy said to Sansenite, but the Beta didn’t listen.
“Give her to me”, he snarled, “give her to me and I won’t hurt you.”

Wolpy didn’t understand Sansenite.
“Sansenite, please, just move out of the way and let’s get out of here!”
“No!” Sansenite yelled. He stepped forward, blocking the way out completely.

*The scene is cut here*

“Now listen to me, brother” the last word was spit out contemptuously, “I’m the Beta of our pack, not you. You’re just a worthless, little Omega. It’s me who should carry Dawnsoul back to our pack and be a hero!”

Wolpy got very frustrated.
“Sansenite! Stop being vain and stupid and get going! It’s too late soon!”

These words woke up Sansenite’s senses. Suddenly he realized that they were surrounded by fire and the chances to get out alive were minimal. He panicked and quickly leaped out of the fire circle they were in, leaving the two others behind.

Wolpy saw him go and tried the same but was not as lucky. The flames hurt him badly, and he fell down. But with the power of his will, he kept running until they were completely safe, back at the rabbit hill. Wolpy let Dawnsoul fall down on the grass and lay down by her. He was happy. He had saved his best friend and everyone else was safe too. Then, everything went black.
