Why do I stay here, alive and involved? To keep quiet the voices that blame it all on me. The ones that wonβt let me sleep.I stay for the satisfaction of proving everyone wrong who said I couldnβt do it. I stay to prove to myself that I can do it too. I stay to claim the rage that boils to the surface every now and then.
I stay to prove I am not like my father.
I stay to conquer my past.
I stay to heal. I stay to unthaw my icy heart.
I stay for Micah, who will never see a sunrise, or a sunset.
Most of all, I stay because of the sleepy little heads, tucked away in their beds. They look to me to be their shining guide, their knight in armor, their comforter in life.
I stay because I am all they have.
I am mom.
