Beautiful J! I love her hair...oh man I love her hair...it's just...What? Oh right, and the plants coming in from the bottom up to the center portion, matching the border colors, that's awesome. When are you making a calander of all these J? Or have you and I missed it...I should go check first, but then I'd be lying by just editing all that last part out & making you think I already knew. Boop!

Nope, no calender, not yet anyways, are they easy to make here at DA? I'll look into it for next year.

I don't know...none of my pictures ever seem to be compliable with the calendar-making scheme of things. Oh well. I don't think I'd have enough to fill one anyway. But YOU do, and it'd be a good one too. So do look.

Much appreciation your way Meike. Its hard for me to not put just as much work into a preliminary drawing as a finished piece. Its not always a good artistic virtue, I need to learn to be a bit more free with my drawings Thank you.

AtarAtis In reply to Ravensrow [2008-05-11 08:08:16 +0000 UTC]

true... I used to not sketch because my sketches always ended up being the final piece which was the reason all my work was small scale and usually on printer paper as I refused to sketch on nice paper. Eventually you learn.. in a way... I think... but somethings don't neccesarily have to be learned and can just be your way... even if takes long. Problem is usually somehow it doesnlt fit the outside world so well

Nevertheless if you can throw out preliminary pieces like this there is a big chance people will end up buying your sketches too!

Yup, I find frequently that the pieces that don't make it to my gallery are either quick designs (especially Celtic knotwork) or drawings that I turn into cards or stickers, and its these that customers usually go for, its a bit weird. It seems that some people like the scratchier (is that a word?) unpolished work more than a finished piece. I really admire your drawing work, I seem to remember some amazing pencil pieces of yours up on Elfwood? Remember Elfwood? It seems like a dream

Indeed there is a certain honest raw side to a sketch that seems to create a whole new life to it that represents the artist's intent in a non concise way, I think many people enjoy that. Most of my quick drawings are preliminaries to show a customer, or tattoo designs which I seem to do waaay too many of for waaay too little money so I don't like to show any pieces that a customer pays money for, I keep them in my portfolio but never put them up on a site like DA in fear of someone else using them. But occasionally I'll use the rejected ones and alter them for cards and stickers. There are so many markets and little stores here on the west coast of Cananda where I can sell stuff like this, so I always take the opportunity to use unwanted pieces. Its a little bit cheap I know but it adds a little more money to live on.

"Are there pieces up on elfwood that are not here that you think would belong here?" Your drawings on Elfwood or mine?

AtarAtis In reply to Ravensrow [2008-05-12 20:38:09 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm. I guess in a way sometimes sketches hold more life. They have a stronger sweep in a grament, a better balance o the page and the multitude of skecth lines leaves people to interpret which line they want to follow by. My sketches sometimes look nothing like the original (if I skecth) and soemtimes I use the skecth as a final piece because I'm afraid to lose what I just got hold of.

And Elfwood? I try to go there once in a while.. just for remembering.. and playing with fairies!

And why don't you upload some of the "scratchier" pieces to your scraps if not you main gallery?!

Are there pieces up on elfwood that are not here that you think would belong here? I would be surprised..
