Description 25: Cosmic Energy

Each Elemental Guardian went their separate ways, either searching for their Crystal or trying to obtain their Symbol. Clary, who needed both her Crystal and Symbol, headed back to the Cave of Bad Dreams to search there, as that was Polokus’ first command to her. Lien, who also needed both her Crystal and Symbol, traveled towards the Bog of Murk, as there was a definite dark power coming from there. Raywill also needed both his Crystal and Symbol, and stayed in the Clearleaf Forest, partly to search for his Crystal in his own home, and partly to help Manoha while the other Elemental Guardians were gone. Rayax, only needing his Symbol, headed towards Polokus’ throne, seeing if he could obtain it there. Maria, seeking her Crystal, went towards the Sanctuary of Stone and Fire, hoping to find it amongst the flames. Edman flew towards the Sanctuary of Water and Ice, hoping to obtain both his Symbol and his Crystal. One by one the Elemental Guardians left, the first being Nocturn. While calm and alert, he headed back to the Heart of the World, seeking to obtain his Symbol.

Manoha was a little sad and worried about the Elemental Guardians, hoping that they would return with success. She was glad that Raywill was around to help, and enjoyed his company. She still wondered about the rest of the Elemental Guardians, and if they were to succeed. The Elemental Guardians thought that they were all off just to obtain their necessities, but Manoha knew that in the process they will each restore a small part of the land, once fulfilling their powers.

Looking out the window of her hut, Manoha bent over to see that the lush, green, rich ground of the Clearleaf forest was slowly being drained of its pureness, and the crops were withering and dieing. The sky too was being sucked like blood, leaving it dreadfully pale. It’s been two months since Polokus disappeared, and order was wiped off the land. It’s also been one day since Onrir’s rise to power, and her great loss. She was still grieving her plans, as she had dedicated her life to helping the Land of the Rayians, only to fail so miserably. Yet there was still hope, and she wasn’t going to give up.

Raywill walked into her hut, and saw Manoha looking mournfully out the window.

“It’s not just YOUR loss, Manoha. It’s ours too. But we ARE going to succeed. Please believe in that,” he noted reassuringly.

Manoha swung her long head over towards him and sighed.

“I try to believe in it, Raywill, but I have so many doubts. I believed in it before our war, and my hopes were crippled yesterday. If we are going to seal Onrir back, we need a sacrifice. Who will it be?”

“We will decide that when the time comes. You’re forgetting something though, you have us. You know: the Elemental Guardians.”

Manoha nodded, and grinned for the first time in two days. The grin quickly tightened and she looked out the window again.

“I know, but what of dear Rayrina? She’s stuck with Onrir. I hope he doesn’t try and use her against us.”

“I know… well, we WILL succeed, I can tell you that. She’s already got both her Symbol and her Crystal, so she’ll be able to automatically help once the time comes. We’ll rescue her soon, but with all the other Elemental Guardians out there, searching, we have no time right now. Once we confront Onrir, we’ll get her back.”

Manoha nodded and sighed again. Her mystic, glittering eyes had been drained too earlier, drained of hope. Yet a little bit of hope could be seen in them at the moment.

“Manoha, this has been grinding me in the stomach for a while now. What IS the purpose of the Elemental Guardians? I mean, without them, the elements still live on so, what is their purpose?” he asked.

Manoha lifted her head up and then looked back at Raywill.

“I knew that I would be asked this someday, and I have been trying to find this out myself. I don’t know Raywill, perhaps it is so that the elements would never get in the wrong hands. I’m not sure. We’ll find out soon enough, when the Elemental Crystals are connected.”

Raywill nodded his disconnected head and bit his lips. “Such mystery there is in life,” he thought.

***

Nocturn teleported himself into the Fairy Council hideout, and decided to explore there. He was soon surrounded with gentle turquoise walls, each glowing softly with blue engravings. “Even with Onrir around and Polokus gone, this place remains pure,” he thought.

Nocturn floated over towards a small pool of water, and stared down into his reflection with his lum-like eyes. He observed his wisp-like structure, and wondered what species of creature he was. He considered himself part of his own element, which he found ridiculous. A small drop of crystal-like water was thrown down into the pool, and Nocturn watched as circular ripples formed in the water, mystifying his image. He sighed and decided that there was no time to lose, and headed over towards Heart of the World.

He passed many hallways and corridors, until he finally reached the large orb of rainbow light, swirling around, sending sparks everywhere. A truly glorious sight to see, the Heart was the source of all energy, even the Elements themselves. Nocturn saw many other Teensies huddled together, like his last departure.
“Nocturn, thank goodness! You have come back!” one Teensie squeaked.

Nocturn tipped himself slightly forward, demonstrating a nodding motion.

“Thank Polokus! We are in a time of need, and we ask for your assistance,” the same Teensie added.

Nocturn knew that he had more important tasks to get to, but being an Elemental Guardian meant protecting the people too.

“What do you need?” his deep voice boomed.

“The Heart, it is going blacker. It is your birth place, and we ask your help.”

Nocturn knew that he was directly related to the Heart of the World, and that he was to somehow keep it safe. He agreed to help in any way possible and then hovered over to the Heart. The Teensie was right, as the great masses of all the colours of the spectrum that swirled around were growing slightly duller by the second. Nocturn focused all his energy and tried to teleport into the Heart, but failed and was shot back onto a wall.

He groaned slightly and cursed, but then straightened his black hole body and wispy legs and sighed. The Heart’s level of power was overwhelming, and Nocturn found it impossible to go inside. He spent hours pondering how to get inside, but was soon found thinking about himself more. He himself was pure energy, except with a mind of its own. He was related to the Heart, but he cannot get in. Yet there had to be some way.

Nocturn pondered on and on until he reached an unusual conclusion. If he himself was made of energy, and the Heart was too, then perhaps if he bonded himself with the Heart, he could cure it. He decided that it was worth a shot, and brought himself close to the Heart. Nocturn let out one last sigh, before pressing one hand onto the Heart’s surface. The energy was overwhelming him once more, but he did not let go. The energy seared through him, ripping him apart, until he was nothing again.

Another brink of life formed inside the Heart, an already established life source. Two red eyes, two claws and a wisp of energy formed inside the Heart, but no black hole that centered Nocturn’s power.  The Heart WAS his body. The power seared through him, giving him unimaginable strength.

Yet the pain and suffering that the Heart was enduring from Onrir was now placed in Nocturn. He shivered, and then calmed himself. He placed his hands together, and then let loose of all his Cosmic Energy power. The goodness from his mind seemed to cure the Heart, curing himself. He understood now.

As the Heart replenished its great rainbow colours, Nocturn began to understand his existence. While many Teensies debated that the Heart itself had a mind, the theory was considered impossible as the Heart is just a mass of energy. Yet Nocturn himself was part of the Heart, and he had a mind of his own. He was the Heart’s mind.

A powerful sphere swirled inside the Heart of the World, and it returned to its usual form. Nocturn reformed himself outside the Heart. The Teensies once again huddled around, sighing with relief, as the Heart was normal once more. If Nocturn could grin, he would have done it there, as his light blue symbol formed in the middle of his black hole.
