But Shi Painter screwed up my layers, so I ended up coloring it in Corel Painter.
I used one of Mugitani's (Xenosaga's current character designer) KOS-MOS concepts for reference:

I saw this on the oekaki board and was totally jazzed. I'm still amazed, when looking at it. The facial designs are very strong and talentedly done (zomg they actially have foreheads! XD) and I think you made them very true-to-life, so to speak, and instantly recognizable. If I didn't know you'd made this I would have assumed it was Monolith Soft's own promo/production prints.

Yeah, even though I know this fanart isn't going to end up in my portfolio for art grad schools, it is nevertheless essential practice, and I always try to put at least 200% effort into most of my work. And I don't know if I'd call it love as much as self-induced slavery and obsession! I love it -too- much almost!

I uploaded/submitted the chapter for which this was drawn, so I guess I'll be doing more of these "preview pics" for each of the chapters.
I wish there were a site out there though, that would allow illustrator/authors to submit illustrated stories, where image files are incorporated into the text. I know most people just end up making their own homepages for that purpose, but I'm 1) way too lazy to deal with html, 2) don't want to deal w/ the annoying ads from a free homepage provider, and 3.) amd too cheap to pay for a domain.

Yeah, for some reason, whenever I color in the faces, some of that prettiness goes away... Maybe I'm making her face too realistic looking?

But the faces don't seem too realistic to me. Just enough shading to show the obvious darker parts like around the eyes. Maybe it's the black lines for KOS-MOS' nose but even then, that shouldn't make pretty go away. I'm at a loss. Maybe you just ended up not liking the angle you have her at.
I still think it looks great.

Hm, you may be right about the shading. It's usually my style to go soft on anime shading, perhaps I should have made the darker areas more prominent.
