Tu vois, Anastasie, le monde est vivant. Parcouru par des lignes d'énergie. Energies minérales, végétales, animales. Energies terrestres, aériennes, ignées, aquatiques... Les pierres songent, les arbres murmurent, les animaux pleurent. La terre grince, l'air s'agite, l'eau gémit, le feu gronde... Et l'homme, l'homme qui appartient pourtant à ce monde, est devenu sourd et aveugle alors qu'il lui suffit d'une poignée de runes pour défier les dieux ! Le Borgne s'est décarcassé à déchiffrer la trame, à cracker le chiffre caché dans les étoiles, et pour quel résultat ? Des hommes qui achètent leurs rêves à Hollywood... Un dolmen, un chêne, une rivière, voilà les seules portes qui vaillent !

Isolated on a tableland overlooking leafy valleys and hillocks near the nature reserve of Haut Languedoc, in southern France, the dolmen of Coste-Rouge is a perfect illustration of the yearning for the absolute that assails the protagonists of the novel Déchirer les ombres, on the run from the modern world in a journey to the heart of darkness. The dolmen has been there for over three millenia : older than the Christ, older than Rome, it is, perhaps, still the vessel of the cosmic energies channelled by the huge skies of Languedoc.

Personal translation of the above excerpt of Déchirer les ombres (all mistakes are my own !) :

You see, Anastasie, the world is alive. Criss-crossed with energy lines. Mineral, vegetal, animal energies. Earth, air, fire, water energies... Stones dream, trees whisper, animals whimper. The earth rasps, the air shakes, the water wails, the fire rumbles... And man, though he belongs in this world, man has become deaf and blind when a handful of runes would be all he needs to challenge the gods ! Old One-Eye went out of his bloody way in order to unravel the woven threads, to crack the code hidden among the stars, and to what end ? Men who buy their dreams from Hollywood... A dolmen, an oak tree, a river, these are the only worthwhile doors !
