Description Lenk (Switzerland), August 2015

These cascading waters form the final section of the Simmenfälle, the falls of the river Simme before it reaches the long valley which will ultimately lead to the end of its journey in Lake Thun, some 50 kilometres away. It is quite a dramatic landscape, a vision of nature refusing to be tamed. By taking the photograph in black and white, I tried to emphasise the timeless atmosphere of the scene (incidentally, it was so rainy and overcast on that day that the choice more or less made itself if I wanted to get at least tolerable results).

For another dose of Romanticism and another memento of this afternoon in the Simmental, see : 'Tis the mist rising over the plain

Great picture. I love how the falls peak out from behind the trees and then take up the foreground.
I really wish the water could be animated and if it was this would be absolutely perfect.
Thank you for this picture and I hope you continue this work

Thanks a lot for your feedback (and for the watch !). It shall remain a moment frozen in time, be it a hundred years ago, in 2015 or tomorrow.

Thank you ! It is easy to overlook little cosy Switzerland when it comes to impressive landscapes, but it is a shame, really. Glad you like it !
