Thank you. I thought of the way two sets of concentric water wave patterns interact, but only as I was painting and they were already forming; though I'll happily take the inspiration retrospectively! ;D. It might have been there in the back of my mind; I don't know. This whole piece evolved very spontaneously. I painted the canvas black, not knowing what I was going to paint; then suddenly it had to be the Two Trees, and they had to look like this, very unlike the ones I painted on the front of my sketch book.

Sorry for the late response. Whether it was intentional or not, the effect has turned out well. And I know exactly what you mean about these paintings that evolve from uncertain beginnings into something you did not necessarily expect - a case in point being by latest Tolkien piece Aredhel Escapes Nan Dungortheb . But sometimes these are the most enjoyable works too, for that very reason!

Very beautiful depiction of the Trees, I really like the effect you've achieved here with the light resonating from each of them. It seems to me to double up as a rippling effect in deep pools, making me think in turn of the Wells of Varda. Was this the intention?
