I never really noticed it before... but your portraits all have this wicked retro vibe going on... Maybe it's the lighting, maybe it's the colours, maybe it's just too awesome for words... but I really like it. Adds a sort of personal flavour to your shots without overwhelming or even diluting the model's personality.

How do you get your models to look so comfortable? Do you just small talk with then and grab random snapshots, or do you have them pose or something?
I used to have them strike a pose, hold it, keep holding it, let them find a comfortable way of holding it, just talk to em for a while, crack a few jokes and snap one when they aren't paying attention.
It's a great way to capture someone's personality in a photo.

Well, I think they look comfortable for a few reasons. One, because most of the models I shoot have a lot of experience and they know how to work the camera. But I think it may also be because I'm a raging smart ass who constantly cracks dumb jokes and I'm pretty personable, so the shoots always feel very low key, like there is no pressure to perform. We always just bullshit the whole time before, throughout, and after the shoot. So, it's really more like friends hanging out & listening to music, and we just happen to be taking pictures as well. I do my best to maintain a mellow, fun atmosphere.
As far as posing, since most models I shoot are very experienced, I tell them to just go for it and I just start shooting. I've found that they get more stiff and can look more awkward when being instructed. So I mostly let them do their thing, and when they hit something I like I'll usually ask them to hold it so I can get it from a few angles. Although, sometimes I'll have a specific pose in mind and I'll tell them exactly what I want, but I prefer to usually let them do their thing for the most part (unless they aren't an experienced model).
All the furniture in my photos is just furniture at friends places or random locations. I've only purchased furniture for a shoot on one occasion. A Swiss record label paid me to do a shoot for an album cover. I used part of the money to buy a retro chair to seat the model in. That was probably 2.5 years ago. The chair is still in my living room though

That's actually really cool... lucky for you getting so many seasoned models. Combination of luck, skill and charisma. Definitely sounds like a good artist... How often do you get to work with a model multiple times?

I'd say about maybe about half the models I shoot I end up shooting again. It really just depends on how happy we both were with the initial shoot, how well we felt we worked together, and proximity. I definitely shoot Cherry Dollface and Julie Bolene more than anyone else. I've become pretty good friends with both of them and we always shoot when they visit Portland or I'm down in LA.
