That was so great! Gave it a 5 on youtube and favourited it here. Really enjoyed watching it. The storyline was simple and enjoyable and the animation was lovely.

A little unsure of the hopping and not having the dinosaur or egg react with the environment above, but as you said above, it could be difficult to get right and if for some small chance you didn't manage to nail it, then it could distract the viewer.

Overall I think it was a great short film and I found it quite pleasant and easy to watch. Keep it up!

Thanks! haha, unfortunately, about the dinosaur that pops out of the egg...I only modeled the head and the neck, because all he needed to do was pop out of the egg!

Great job on it all. Really cool.

But do you mind if I give you some critiques on it? I have been known to be a little harsh, so I thought I should ask frist before I dish it out.

Hey thanks! Sure, no problem, critiques are always welcome! It's all for improvement

Modern-Myths In reply to Red-Dilopho [2008-09-25 04:14:24 +0000 UTC]

Alright then. So here goes

Well first. I think that the shadow for the baby t-rex is a little too light. You might want to get it darker just a little bit.
They way the t-rex moves around by hopping is way off. Even though it is easier. you might want to do the walking and running instead of hopping. But if you wnat to stay with the hopping, you could just take 1 of the legs and move the keys a little forward or back in timeframe. that way it gives it a more realistic look. Try it and you will see what I mean.

Next The is the egg. First when it starts roll down. It doesnt start rolling. It slides first and then starts rolling. You need to make it so that it would. I hope that's understandable. Also it just doesn't just roll down the hill. It a little slow at first. Then it speeds up.

Next is when the dino stops the egg. It makes it look like the eggs is an inflatable ball of some kind. So you might now want to have the egg not bounce as far as it did. Also the dino body should at least be rocked back just a little from the inpact of the egg. that way it looks like that the egg shows that it has some weight to it. You know what I mean.

Other then that. The lighting, and other animations, the texturing is really good.

Thanks for the critique! Yeah I totally agree with the stuff you pointed out...I did kind of realized when I was working on the film that there were things that could be improved, but I simply had no time to fix it, the deadline and the end of the year was closing in. That thing with the egg having no weight was the thing that bothered me the most but that I couldn't fix...oh well . Thanks again for the detailed critique, I'll take in into consideration next time I do CG animation!

This is just...stunning! The models are just fantastic, and the animation just adds a whole new level of realism to the characters!
The film is so adorable and cute, the character's interactions with each other just make the viewer go "Awwwww!"

I know exactly how much time, effort (and the many hours of frustration ) that goes into a short 3D film. Not only was yours a 3D film, you plonked the characters in a real-life background...which is incredibly difficult to get the two mediums to blend seamlessly...a feat which you have done to perfection

...I could type paragraphs about this film...but instead I'm going to watch it again with my jaw dropped in utter awe!

Oh yes, I did notice the lack of footprints, but knowing how hard they are to do well in 3D and even in post-production (you point out all the sand "flicks" would just be distracting if they are not perfectly rendered, which is very true), so I don't blame you for leaving them out.

I really like the resemblance of the T-Rex's movement pattern of that of birds, it makes perfect sense and it adds a lot to the realism of the film. I like it, very much.
