Hurrah for Zangieff the Russian Wrestler!! This is probably my favourite of my streetfighter inked pics so far. Zangieff is alot of fun to draw....the big friendly lug....He seems like one of the crappest players to choose, and easy to beat, but once you master his spinning pile-driver, he was pretty deadly. I went with the U.S.S.R symbol on his belt because in my heart "Zangee" (as he is known by the great bears which he defeated during the cold war) has always been from that era. In the original game he was form U.S.S.R so he's got to represent the hammer n sickle!
One of these days I will post the pencils for this one, and you guys will see how rough they really were...Not much more than a simple breakdown really, which is why I think the inks came out quite full of life. Yeah...I messed up on bits of the anatomy, but I still like it.
Has anyone seen the official capcom art for this guy? He always has a little spurt of blood comming off his head...whats with that anyway? Apparently the great Zangieff is also gay according to the official capcom text books...not that there is anything wrong with that.... Ok... I'm rambling now.

thanks for your very kind comments man. I'm glad you like the piece, and yeah...street fighter art is always fun to do, so I'm pretty sure it will always be abit of a running theme in my work.
There are afew coloured versions of this floating around on DA already, but so far I have not received the "official" version, if u know what I mean. Hopefully one day in the future.

i love this character. one question ? on his right armpit area .. thats hair right not his arm. its just hitting on the leg all tangent like.. simple fix and would look clearer.

Hmmm...I'm not sure exactly what your talking about, but I didnt draw any arm-pit hair. It could just be shadow which looks confusing, but that would be fixed with some colours....The shoulder on the other hand, is quite Effed up though.

You are not a beard fan? They are so much fun to draw on characters though!!
Every fighting game needs a big lug character to make you feel tough because you can beat up on the big guy....AND...I think he is one of those characters which you choose just to add insult to injury once you beat someone with them.... EG: "You just got beaten by Zangief!!! How S**T are you!!"
You get the idea...

oh i have nothing against beards or drawing them on characters (everyone's wanted to draw a pei mei right?) but it's just that particular beard. looks like he's been out for 5 rounds with a van der graff generator!
well, yes, pummeling your friend zangieff styl-ee is a moral victory in itself, but beating your opponent with zangeiff does involve getting good with him...with includes plenty of torturous matches where you are unable to grab your lighter, more nimble opponent.
as for beating down on the little guy, remember streets of rage? ah, the wrestler max, was a favourite of mine. just pick em up and crack em down! (oh yeah! etc.)

You are a truely amazing inker. I'm in awe. Chun Li was always my favorite, but you made Zangieff second. OMG Wait!!! He was gay?! How I would hate to run into him in a dark alley. My butt's just a little too cute and he's a rather large man.(no-pun intendid)
