Description Third of my "Famous Faces" series from Illustration. The subject of this portrait is Jacqueline Cochran. I'm not sure she's quite as well-known as the other two figures I chose, but it turns out she is the first woman to break the sound barrier. Deciding that was pretty neat, I chose her as my third subject.

The color scheme of this image is Split Complementary. I wanted to keep the red as sort of a constant between the three portraits, so the other two colors I chose were blue-green and yellow-green. I think it turned out pretty well. I'm very happy with the aircraft in this image, and found it quite fun drawing an F-86 Sabrejet (the plane Jacqueline flew when she broke the sound barrier.) It's a very beautiful, elegant aircraft, and is surprisingly simple to draw, as well. I had a lot of fun with it!

For the clouds, I went with a more streaky approach to give a little more of a sense of speed, and also to avoid all 3 skies looking the same. I think they turned out pretty neat, though I do still miss the big fluffy giants, as well.

Like the others, the media is a marker underlay on the plane and the figure, and watercolor for everything else. The only ink lines are the names of the figures.
