Description Female heroes and villains from the 1640s.

Top Row, Left to Right:

Mae Nightley:
Counterpart of Misty Knight
Real Name: Misnag Dogter
Biography: Misnag Dogter was born in Africa, and was stolen as a teen to work in a white plantation in the American colonies. This was the terrible plight of many Africans of that time, enslaved by European settlers in the New World for the sake of economic prosperity for this burgeoning nation. Under the control of Al Rackham and his slave overseer “Big Brother”, Misnag had her true name taken from her and given the new name ‘Mae Nightley’. Two of the male slaves, Lucas Carlson and Bill Striker, were able to get her out of the plantation territory, but when they were caught, Bill betrayed them. Mr. Rackham had Big Brother cut off Mae’s right hand with a machete, but that caused Lucas to break free from his chains and kill the overseer. Lucas and Mae finally escaped into the uncharted west, where none yet dared to explore; reclaiming their birthnames, Misnag Dogter and Lungile Hok, they promised to end the injustice of slavery. On the west coast of the continent, they became friends with Korean explorer and martial artist Ong, who taught them his language. Misnag and Lungile traveled to Korea where the latter became a student of Ong’s martial arts style Kun-Lun, trained under their sensei Kei Lung the Thunderer. Misnag also studied martial arts under her new Japanese friend Neesan Wing, and all four became known as the Heroes for Hire. Called the Iron Fist and the Power Man, Ong and Lungile passed away before they could eradicate slavery in the colonies, but they inspired a movement of abolitionists to oppose slavery, leading to future American president Abraham Lincoln ending slavery during the American Civil War. As for our heroes, Misnag and Ong fell in love and married, as did Lungile and a woman named Kazou Jueru.
Powers: Above-average strength/speed/agility/stamina/senses/reflexes; Judo martial arts prowess, despite missing a hand.

Thundra:
Real Name: Osode Samon
Biography: Osode Samon lost her mother at a young age, who was murdered by a male assassin. It’s the price you pay for a life with a ninja master, especially one who is the patriarch of the Lightning Clan of ninja, one of the Five Fingers of The Hand. This trauma caused Osode to become a misandrist, a woman who hates men. The only man she respected was her father, Dendou Samon I, who compelled her to complete her training. On missions for the Hand, Osode, codenamed: Thundra, refused to work with male Hand ninja, only females. Though she denies it, Oiwa, Osode’s younger sister, was believed to have been raped by Rei Hamasaki, the student of Master Konbou, leader of the Hand. He was exiled and became the anti-Hand hero Gamushara. Afterwards, Osode’s and Oiwa’s father was assassinated, leaving their younger brother Dendou II, aka Lightno, as the head of the Lightning Clan. The other 4 clan heads and Konbou ordered the sisters to find their father’s true killer, so they went their separate ways. As Lightna, Oiwa tried to kill Gamushara, believing him to be her father’s slayer, but she was killed by the assassin Bullseye for her troubles; she was later resurrected by Konbou to continue her mission, using the ritual called the Gathering of Five. Thundra, not hearing about her sister’s death and revival, continued her mission, discovering an old secret hidden by the Hand for decades: a Sixth Finger called the Darkness Clan! The Darkness Clan was nearly slaughtered by the other clans for accidentally summoning a horrible demon, and now they have returned to exact their revenge. As she learned from interrogating the Darkness ninja Blackout, the Darkness Clan’s leader, The Shroud, ordered his minions to kill the leaders of the five clans within a year of each other in order to cause chaos within the ranks, allowing the Darkness to strike when the timing was right. Osode confronted Konbou and the other leaders about this secret clan, and that’s when The Shroud finally made his move, just as he planned all along. The five clans, Lightning, Stone, Fire, Edge, and Poison, were overwhelmed by the Darkness ninjas, and Konbou was helpless. Osode forced Konbou to release Oiwa from his control, her subservience caused by the Gathering of Five dampening her martial prowess. Konbou freed Lightna, and the Lightning Sisters defeated the exhausted Darkness ninja; The Shroud wouldn’t give up so easily, and he struck them down as well. Gamushara appeared to save them from The Shroud, but he was bested as well. The Shroud seemed to be victorious, but then he was stabbed in the back by his own apprentice, Cloak. Cloak fell in love with a female Edge Clan ninja named Dagger, so he betrayed the Darkness to be with her. Order was restored to the Hand, and with his dying breath, Konbou exonerated Gamushara of his crimes and named him the next Palm, the new leader of the Hand.
Powers: Above-human strength/speed/stamina/durability/agility/reflexes/aim/senses; martial arts mastery; use of throwing spikes and a three-foot chain attached to a bladed ring.

Harinago:
Counterpart of Medusa
Biography: Some months ago, the wicked god Tsukuyomi was revealed as the murderer of a fellow Shinto god; he framed his brother Susanoo, who was banished to Earth by their father, the king Izanagi. Susanoo was later exonerated of his crimes and Tsukuyomi was imprisoned on the moon. Seeking vengeance against the Earth, Tsukuyomi regained a fraction of his power to be able to reach into the Earth temporarily, depending on the phase of the moon. Collecting the essences of many beings and spirits, he created a gigantic kingdom on the moon called Tsuki-no-Miyako and an army of powerful followers called the Inhumans. Like the Greek goddess Athena, each Inhuman was created fully formed and highly intelligent; though they know it exists among the other beings, they embrace no concept of siblinghood, except for two. When the female Inhuman named Harinago was created, she was born with a partially-dead Inhuman attached to her side. Tsukuyomi removed it and wanted to kill it, but Harinago opposed. She used a special crystal cultivated on the moon to stimulate the shriveled girl’s growth, restoring her to full health. Harinago and the Inhuman girl, whom she named Kaguya, regard each other as sisters. Kaguya originally had telekinetic powers, but when she was accidentally killed by an assassin trying to kill Harinago’s husband Kuraijin, she was reborn as a golden shell on Earth; this shell amplified the powers of the heroes called the Suteki Four, and when she hatched she could now control Water, Air, Fire, and Earth. The Suteki Four and the Inhumans have since been allies, which is why the 4 heroes refused to fight when Tsukuyomi sent his armies to invade the Earth. The Moon God’s first assault was launching their crystals at the planet, which dissolved into a mist that mutated many living beings that made contact. The heroes of Earth struggled to contain the mutagenic vapors and crazed beasts it created, leaving the Earthly gate to the heavens vulnerable to attack. The Inhumans emerged from the portals, with Kuraijin riding the dog-like Joumago, and assaulted Izanagi’s kingdom. The King of the Shinto Gods was defeated, allowing his vengeful son to claim the throne. The Regalia, Japan’s mightiest heroes, battled Kuraijin and his closest Inhuman allies, but, in their isolation from the main battlefield, Kaguya and the Regalia member Caduceus fell in love. She allowed the speedster hero to breech the gate to heaven and assault Tsukuyomi, but the God of Evil, possessing his father’s enchanted weapon as well as his own, was too much for the one hero to handle. The rest of the Regalia and the Inhumans saw how dishonorable Tsukuyomi was beating his mortal opponent. He tired and ordered Kuraijin to finish Caduceus off; the lead Inhuman saw the fear in his sister-in-law’s eyes and understood what must happen. He betrayed Tsukuyomi and decimated him with his sonic scream attack, a scream loud enough to bring the palace of heaven crumbling down! Izanagi, once more in control, cleared the air of the mutating vapors and forgave the Inhumans for what they did under their creator’s control. They imprisoned their former master beneath their lunar city. Tsukuyomi would not give up so easily, though, as he used his powers to reach into our world once more to take control of another. Scouring the Earth, he was able to find a warrior who was deadly enough to kill any target his designates, but weak-willed enough to obey him without question. That warrior is…
Powers: 5-foot-long hairs upon her head, which she man mentally control as though they were extra limbs; she can lift heavy objects, shear through strong substances, and attack with lightning-fast speed.

Moon Knight:
Real Name: Makara Kahyal
Biography: A girl was was born in the African country of Egypt, a province of the Ottoman Empire. Her stepfather, a Muslim governor, was outraged by his wife’s infidelity and slew her. He then raised the product of the affair himself, not as a daughter, but as a merciless living weapon; she would one day be forced to bear him a son, a true heir. To cover the affair, she was given the name Makara Kahyal, the last name stemming from her birth father, whom was slain by her mother’s husband. As an unknown assassin, Makara killed many political dissidents that threatened the Ottoman reign over Egypt. Driven insane from the years of abuse and degradation, she wished to take her own life until she was contacted by the vision of Khonshu, the Egyptian God of War. He gave her amazing strength that waxed and waned with the phases of the moon, so she waited until the full moon before killing her stepfather and escaping the Egyptian capital. As the Moon Knight, she was given only one mission before she can claim her true freedom: find the five shells of the Cosmic Egg, the egg in which the first living being on Earth was hatched from. In a jeweled form, the fifth and final piece of the Cosmic Egg was already under the custody of the Japanese Regalia, who found it after a battle with the sorcerer Grandmaster. Moon Knight stealthily incapacitated the superhuman members of the Regalia, and assembled the five pieces. The magics of the combined Cosmic Egg opened a portal that tore the heroes’ temple headquarters asunder. Khonshu stepped through the portal and… struck down Moon Knight! It turned out that he was really Tsukuyomi, disguised as the Egyptian God, who used the Cosmic Egg as a portal to finally escape his prison. Susanoo was infuriated of his brother’s deceit and willing ness to harm this innocent girl, so he ended up killing him! The anger just grew, though, and he sequestered himself to a far-away area to recuperate. The Regalia took in Makara to heal and considered allowing her into their ranks.

Bottom Row, Left to Right:

The Enchantress:
Real Name: Amukei
Biography: Centuries ago, Izanami, the former wife of Izanagi and the new goddess of death, temporarily pulled into her realm Oshiomimi, the banished god of dark magic. They concocted a spell that would kill Oshiomimi’s apprentice and have her reborn in Yahirodono, the Heaven of the Shinto Gods. The dark acolyte was rebirthed as Aumkei, the daughter of a Shinto god and goddess. Even as a child once more, she innately knew of her true mission and conspired with other like-minded spirits to kill Izanagi. In her known second life, Amukei garnered the affection of Susanoo, son of Izanagi, and Kegawa, the son of Bishamon, the god of war, the former she sent her affection back to. Her’s and her co-conspirators’ attempt to assassinate the king were thwarted, and they were banished to Yomi, the underworld. Susanoo rejected her but Kegawa, however, dove into the underworld after her, stole the axe of a demonic guard, and brought her into the mortal realm. Green markings upon her flesh now indicate her enhanced strength in the realm of magic. Amukei forgot about her mission set by her master and now seeks to regain the love of Susanoo, by any means; the animal-like Kegawa was too simple to understand that she didn’t truly love him, but she used him to carry out her schemes. She became The Enchantress and he The Executioner. A set of 8 magic stones were stolen from Oshiomimi by the Grey Gargoyle, a new villain with the power to turn beings to stone with a touch. He gave the stones to Enchantress in exchange for curing his stone-skin transformation, but she had the Executioner slay him, instead. She scattered the magic stones to 8 global hotspots, areas where Earth’s connection to the forces of Creation and Negation are strongest, in hopes to destroy the planet. Susanoo refused to give himself to her in exchange for Earth’s safety, so the Regalia battled her allies to destroy the stones all over the world. The magics of the broken stones, however, refluxed and sent our heroes to an alternate future where Amukei is the sex slave of Earth’s tyrant… Tsukuyomi! The Regalia escaped this horrible future to prevent it.

Her father is General Mantoru, a loyal servant of Daitengu (ruler) Sharra and head of their armies; Mantoru also raised two human siblings, who later became the martial artists Ruby Devil and Jade Goblin. Tawa desired the power of the Basan Crystal, the tengu’s most precious treasure, but it would kill all those who would try to touch even the smallest fraction of the power. She then discovered a loophole in the crystal’s magic that would give her the power by using a blood sibling as a medium for a magic ritual. He used her learned magic to brainwash her father into seducing a human woman and siring a child. That child grew up to be Yami Hiaro, a half-demon, half-human member of the heroic Men of Tendai. When a war broke out between the tengu and the human villagers of the Hitachi Province (a war that spawned the Regalia member Hawkeye), the Men of Tendai ended the conflict peacefully. At this time Tawa was the former advisor to the late Sharra’s son, Daitengu Tsukuba, and the signing of peace accord at the tengu palace is where Tawa and Yami first met. Tawa took Yami to the chamber that contains the Basan Crystal. Tawa then knocked Yami out and magically bound her to the Crystal (also disabling her telepathy); when Yami came to, Tawa revealed her plan for her. All hope seemed lost for Yami, until the new Daitengu Natsumi (Tsukuba’s sister) wandered into the chamber. Tawa incapacitated Natsumi to keep her from interrupting the ritual, but Tawa had no idea that the Daitengu is always telepathically bound to the leader of the Tengu Kingdom’s Imperial Guard. The tengu warrior Ureshii, leader of the Guard, defeated the witch, but she summoned a horde of goblins to defend her. The Guard and the Men of Tendai battled the goblins, while Tawa preformed the ritual. Yami’s force of will disrupted the ritual, and she gained the power that her evil sister sought. Yami is now the vessel of the Fire Spirit Basan, and she used her powers to destroy the goblin horde. Tawa was imprisoned by the tengu for her treachery, and Yami changed her alias from “Kiseki Lass” to “Basan”.

Knowing something horrible would happen, he traveled to the village of the healer Gachi Saiyou, to reveal to her his human identity, her colleague Daisuke Bonoko, and his love for her. Retreating to a safe distance, he began violently heaving out the bile that built up inside him, and the gunk transformed into a woman with the face of a monster! The orange monster, clad in purple and red armor and wielding a sword, struck down Susanoo and went on a rampage. The demoness, calling herself Amanozako (“Heaven Opposing Everything”), did battle with the Regalia. Susanoo defended his friends and killed Amanozako, absorbing her essence back into his body. Amanozako has a killer smile.

I like the Edo version of Moon Knight as a woman.

Mae Nightley looks so badass being dressed as a black Chun-Li. Having her hand cut off adds more badassery.
