Homaging issue one of Eastman and Laird's original TMNT comic. Β I love the original designs and red bandana's so much, I'd like to homage that whole first issue if I had the time! This was a lot of fun.I've been participating in Inktober this year, along with a small group of other Irish artists, and you can follow our exploits on tumblr , twitter , or facebook .

It's Leonardo. Β In the original comics all the Turtles wore red bandanas: the coloured ones came about when they were making the toys and cartoons and have remained ever since. Β I still love that look though Β
You should check the original ones out, they're pretty cool!

This is massively sweet! I love to see them depicted with such muscular arms and solid wrists. There is very much an impression that the sword is an extension of his arm.

I'm exactly the same! Β I love how Eastman and Laird drew them originally like that. Β However, I also love the IDW look, where they look a lot more like teenagers. Β My hope is to one day get on that book so I'm always practicing trying to get a balance between the influence of the original comic and the new looks IDW have created.
Still... I'm toying with the idea of doing a fan comic, re-creating that first issue: muscular turtles and all the gritty violence!
