Description Wangeweza ("could have been" in Swahili) is the daughter of Kovu and Vitani, the sister of Shetani and Utu, the mate of Kamatu, and the mother of Alfajiri and Upya.

Wangeweza comes from an alternate universe where Kovu actually did as Zira instructed and killed Simba, taking over the Pride Lands and becoming it's new Dark King in Scar's place. As such, Kovu does as was intended by Scar in the first place before the latter's death; he -the son of Balondemu- takes Vitani -Scar's daughter- as his mate as his Queen and begets heirs from her, joining their bloodlines at last. Or, at least, he tries to.

Their first couple of tries prove to be unsuccessful, and when Vitani eventually does become pregnant, it's not with the kind of heir Kovu desires. Zira has basically taught Kovu the same lessons Scar used to teach Mheetu, in that females are worthless when it comes to running a kingdom, and that only a male should be heir and King. So when Vitani gives birth to a single little girl, he's not happy to say the least. He refuses to name the cub his heir, and insists on trying for another cub. Vitani is angry with her mate and adopted brother, for she believes that their daughter could be just as good a Queen as he a King, but Kovu won't hear it. He needs a strong male for his heir, not a weak female.

Vitani names the girl Wangeweza, "could have been," for if she had been born under different circumstances, or at a different time, or as a male, or with different parents, she could have been a Queen. Could have been, but won't be.

At least that's what it seems like, until Kovu and Vitani realize that Vitani isn't going to get pregnant again. For whatever reason, nothing's working once more, so it seems Wangeweza will be their only child. And that only makes Kovu angrier.

Kovu takes his anger out on his daughter and mate, heeping verbal and sometimes physical abuse onto them whenever he can, and though Vitani, being the spitfire she is, gives just as good as she gets, it seems Wangeweza is not like either of her parents when it comes to temperment. She's a kind and gentle soul, so when her father hurls abuse at her, she meerly shies away, apologizing for something she cannot control. Her mother insists she stand up for herself, but she just doesn't have the will or the courage to. That only makes her mother frustrated and her father even more furious with her.

Eventually, after trying and failing with Nala to beget a male heir of Scar's bloodline, Kovu decides to betroth his daughter to Kamatu, Nuka and Kiara's son. While Kamatu is not his cub, he is of Scar's bloodline via Nuka and Kiara, with Nuka being Scar's son and Kiara being Scar's granddaughter. Not only that, but Kamatu is Simba's grandson, and the great-grandson of Mufasa. By tying his daughter to Kiara's son, he and his own bloodline will have much more legitimacy in the future. Besides, despite his father being the scrawny Nuka, Kamatu is quite big and bulky like his grandfather and great-grandfather, thus he would make a good heir. Thus Kovu names Kamatu his heir and the future King, and declairs that he will marry his daughter once they come of age.

Vitani is absolutely livid, but Wangeweza really doesn't mind. It's not that she likes Kamatu - quite the opposite, really. He's stuck up, arrogant, and kind of an ass. But if it will make her father happy and pay attention to her, then she'll do it. At this point her life, all she really wants is her father's love, much like how Nuka wished for Zira's love.

And much like Nuka, she'd do anything if that meant her father would finally acknowlege her and love her.

NOTES: So I adopted this lovely lady from .  I slightly darkened her earrings and slightly lightened her undercoat colors just so they'd be more noticable, but other than that I didn't change anything. I rarely adopt things (in fact, I think this is my first adopt ever on this site), but I just had to have her when I saw her. And I knew EXACTLY what to do with her when I saw her.

After all, doesn't anyone ever wonder what would have happened if Kovu had ended up following Zira's plan?

Zira was a bit of a hypocrite, saying that girls were weak when she herself is a girl!

She got that from Scar.

Still, she was a bit harsh on herself for believing that.
