The character-rendering looks like colour-pencil and pen work with that blending and hatching (gosh I love hatching detail), and for the background, pastels maybe? I just love the softness of the colouring-method you used, making it look like it was done traditionally. It's rare treat to see picturebook scenes like this from you, most of your other works not having backgrounds.
She's a girl like Momiji, right? I love the surprised wolfish expression and perched little bird regardless. A very cute moment. <3 I hope to see more of this character!
