I've been using GIMP, though not lately. I changed computers, lost the program, and forgot how to use it. I get mixed signals on photoshop: some say it's the best program to use...and others say GIMP is just as good. Well, if it is, how come GIMP is free and PS is like 700 bucks?
I want a wacom tablet and start trying digital art--then again, I also want to try oil painting lol--but I don't want to save up and spend the money and I don't have enough control with the stylus or whatever.

I've heard of GIMP, but haven't ever used it!
Yeah, I get mixed signals, too! I guess it's going to be one of those things where you just going to have to see what your comfortable with, ya know!?
Yup, YIKES! Photoshop is way too expensive!! I could never afford the full program!! Unless you went to Pirate bay or something, lol!
Oh, I so want a Wacom tablet, too! I've been wanting one for sooo long, but I don't have that kinda cash right now!!
You know for the painting, you could always go to Walmart and get a set of oil paints from there! In the craft section! I got some a while back and they were great! I think it comes with like 12 tubes and they were a good size!
Cheap too! Like 15$ at the most!!!

somehow that got mixed in. I mean I'm afraid to save the money for the tablet and it doesn't have the control I need. I mean, do you see what you're doing on the tablet or on a connected computer? If it's on the tablet, maybe I could master it. It would be like drawing on paper, but there has to be enough friction or control and smoothness of line.
I'm not ready for oils. Besides, I know paints. Yes, of course, to start off and try it the cheap is the way to go. But artist grade paints--I'm slowly building up some in acrylics--are the best, have the most pigment.

Just some information about Graphics Tablets, if you havent found out already, on most of them unless you want to spend $1,000+ you cannot see the stuff on the tablet, but on the computer screen. Also I used to have a wacom bamboo tablet and now I have an aiptek tablet, for the same price I got a bigger tablet size with macros and works the same.
I found I have better control on my tablet than on paper, although I kind of get stuck when drawing since I constantly rotate my paper and tend to draw on a slight diagonal.
It just depends on what you want out of your tablet, since you can find real cheap ones on amazon for like $25 compared to the $50 for the same thing
