Description patron saint of broken things
rusty nails and insects' wings
neglected toys and yellowed pages
radios from other ages
abandoned buildings, lonely streets
debased, deceased and obsolete

some details here: [link]

i did this back in like november i think, but i never scanned it until now because i was scared of damaging the insect wings. yes, those are real wings from real insects. don't worry, they were already dead when i found them. also includes an old photo, some things cut out of magazines, beads, sequins, tissue paper. partly inspired by old spanish portraits of saints, gloomy old men with big gilt haloes. i think it scanned pretty well, the darkish circle behind his head is metallic in real life, but other than that i can't complain.

i was the "artist of the issue" for my school's newspaper back in february and this is the piece i used for that. my friends still tease me about it. "i love dead insects! in fact i love dead people too!" i have crappy friends.

(terrible five minute rhymey poem also by me)

the hand is actually another photo -- it's one of the things i cut out of a magazine to use in collage. so i can't really take credit for that part, but thanks!

my
hero

that is all.

That guy kind of looks like joseph stalin, almost. You're a very well rounded artist. Your collage skills are up there with the best of them, you know, those long dead and famous collagistas.
I'm not even sure how this thing makes me feel; that guy looks like he's up to something; now he's all winged and super human... Everything is placed really well too, I wasn't to sure with the frilly tissue paper at first, but I like it now, breaks up the square, uniformness and makes my eyes loop at halos and wings.

I like the terrible five minute rhymey poem too, it fits the image so well, kind of narating and finally giving some idea as to what the hell my head should be guess at. Maybe.

anyway, your stuff is getting better and better; maybe someday you could loan me five bucks. stay in school

this piece is awesome! i like the composition, and everything! and the poem, it's not terrible, i think it's great, it goes very well with the piece. it sort of reminds me of something from a Modest Mouse music video. i don't know if you know the band, they're pretty good, but yeah...anyways , i really like this piece and the fact that you used real wings makes it more intriguing.
