i don't even remember when i finished this. could have been september, october -- i know it was before mid-november though.

this was one of the first assignments for my AP studio art class: a self-portrait. i've always hated doing selfportraits

i'm not a terribly angry person, generally; this was chosen more for the sake of the expression than to convey some hidden inner rage. at the time i was interested in distortion and movement in the face, and spent probably twenty minutes making faces in front of the mirror before i decided on this. yeah, it's actually done from life, kind of. i spent about an hour sitting there with my mouth open like this, drawing myself, but my jaw really hurt by the time i was done with the sketch so i shut my mouth and kind of winged it on the colors.

painting the earrings very nearly killed me. they're made of shell (yes, they're real and i actually wear them, even though they weigh like eight pounds each), so they're kind of iridescent and i had the hardest time getting that onto paper.

acrylics (watered down) on textured watercolor-type paper, about 11" by 17"

edit: i changed the title so i could use it for something else. also it had nothing to do with the picture. the new one doesn't either, but i like the song.
