Description “she didn’t just send messages in bottles, she sent memories, years folded up and set afloat in the hopes that one day her entire life would wash up on the shore of some distant beach and she could finally wash her hands of it.”

one of my teachers from last year recently commissioned me to do a painting for her, something "big, colorful and abstract." i'm ok with big and colorful, but i've never been good at abstract art. i'm much more comfortable drawing people and places and things. so while i wait on the specifics from her, i'm doing some 'practice' pieces to try and develop a more coherent abstract style before i go on to a big canvas. this is the second such attempt, the first one was embarrassingly bad. i actually really like this though.

this version is actually about twice as big as the original; i resized it to post here.

photoshop 6 and mouse.

id say this one is pretty crunchy, its like blue cabbage. definately planty, organic like... fungusy... squishy. again, great work on the detail. this almost reminds me of 's stuff, except with your sort of colors.

you should keep trying with abstract stuff. once you get used to the freedom it gives painting a completely new feeling, its weird really, but definately good. i can imagine really cool stuff in the future, maybe.

You know, one would think that abstract would be easy considering it's rarely anything more than just a blur of vague images or splashes of color plastered across a canvas and given some weird name like "Man in Turmoil" and that's it. It's really so much more than that though. Another reason why I don't care for it. But that's just me. This I actually like, though. It sorta looks like rain clouds during a sunset.

Exactly, but you know, personally, I've always liked surrealism better. My art is heavyly influenced by the likes of H.R. Giger (though you may or may not be able to tell). I love to delve into the worlds of dreams and nightmares that you can only go to through surrealism. I sound like a A&E narration, I know.
