Idea of their bookstore:
Velveteen was a custom order made by the owner of a small, but well loved bookshop. She needed someone tall and friendly to help keep the shelves and help customers with anything they may need. He had been working in the shop for the most wonderful two weeks, he could reach every shelf, all of the customers absolutely adored him and some would even make special trips just to visit him, usually picking up some small odds and ends as they did. It was perfect.
Only a day after the two week mark, he surprised the owner by revealing his true talent. A boy had come to the shop with an assignment in hand: Choose a book to read and present to the class. He had no idea what book to choose, nor even where to begin to look. He was never much of a reader, it just wasn't interesting to him.
Velveteen was on shelf duty when the bell softly dinged, signalling the arrival of the boy. He turned to greet their new customer, and noticed that the boy looked almost intimidated, eyeing the shelves and worrying on the assignment sheet he carried. Velvet smiled softly and crouched so he could see the boy eye to eye, “Hello there, can I help you find something?”
The boy responded with a soft greeting to his shoes before stammering out that he needed to find a story for class, but he didn’t know what to do. He offered the assignment sheet to the Grem2, tentatively looking up at him. After looking over the sheet quickly, Velvet stood back up and patted the boy’s head before leading him to the children’s books. He looked over a couple, asking various questions, like “Do you have any favorites?” “What kind of stories do you usually like?” though all of them were shot down, the boy just wasn’t one for stories. He prefered video games. “But.. You know those are just stories too, right? Tell me about your favorite game.”
The boy looked shocked for a moment before breaking into his account of the game he loved most. Velvet listened intently mulling over every detail the boy could think to share. “I think I know just the book for you…”
Velvet began to weave a tale of his own in return, animatedly acting out scenes from the book. The boy watched him, completely enthralled, as well as the owner who sat at the register, an idea forming in her mind.
From that day on, a couple of times a week, the store would hold special after school and weekend gatherings for the children and for any adults who chose to come watch. At these gatherings, Velveteen would read various books, from novels to a couple of short stories. It grew to be a beloved event, where anyone could gather and be whisked away by Velvet’s fantastic and animated storytelling. The changing seasons only made it even more loveable, summers meant lemonade and popsicles to help everyone cool down in the heat, and winter.. Velvet truly lived for the winter. They would break out the cocoa and cookies and bundle up in blankets for stories in the warm shop, a patchwork family, drawn together by the tales he’d weave.
I can't even begin to say how much I love this character.. He's everything I love packed into one fuzzy puff with bird feet ;A;
I hope everything is alright with him and his story though. ;v;
This took me way too long to finish, but ugh. He was so much fun to work on, and I really truly love him to death.
What even are bird feet though
I've never drawn them before, omg I have no idea if they look ok or not ;n;
