Part Four of a Series

Story time-

So its ten days after the Ultimate DragonCon 2012. I missed it due to being down with the flu. Now my friends are all flying around trick or treating tonight without me and if that isn’t enough, I’m sitting for little bro’ ... Again! The porch light is off and the candy bowl is empty, last treater’ was an hour ago and we’re watching “Forbidden Planet” for the 56th time.....

A connection flag comes up on the monitor and its incoming conference. The window is accepted and opens to an Eastern Dragon and an assistant looking at me. “Hello?” I start.

“Mindy, a good friend of yours sent to me a card that we passed out at UDC2012 for anyone who missed, you were not able to attend?” The larger of them asked.

“No, I could not get there...” I said.

“Well, how would you like to come to a Halloween Party Tonight?” He queried with a sly grin.

“I’m not able, I’m not in costume.” I said.

“Oh, We’ll take care of that” He assured with a smile. I must have been getting the idea and grinning back too.

“Oh, but my little brother is with me, and he has to be in bed,” I said, with Gerry tugging at my sleeve that he wanted to go.

“Well, bring him along then, and you will both be back in plenty of time” He said, nodding to his assistant.

“Alright, but...how?” I asked, but before the last word died, a 8 foot circle of shimmering light appeared in front of the couch. I knew of these from reading so many stories and from Sci-fi films, a portal was just feet away.

“Step through quickly, and don’t be afraid!” He beckoned.

We got up and joined hands and walked in, it was breezy and as I looked behind me, the view of the empty couch faded as the portal closed with a sound like you get when opening a vacuum sealed jar!

Down the dark corridor we walked towards the opening and light at the other end, I could hear festive music ahead. In the dark there were others walking as well and we converged to the opening carefully to avoid others feet and... Tails? In moments we were in a decorated room with several more travellers. There were gasps as they saw their new appearance, such phrases as OMG, and Wow and even an Ach...Himmel! plus more words of amazement in other languages.

The portal closed, revealing a large monitor and our host on that screen, chuckling.

“How did you change us???” said one of our group.

“Its our little version of multitasking, walking through portals can get so boring after all!” He said, followed by “Everyone happy with thier ‘costumes’ ?” to a cheer from us and then from the room, there were about a hundred more here, all dragons and anthro characters.

I asked while pointing to my brother “He has school tomorrow, he can’t go as a d-r-a-g-o-n, he may even scare himself!”

Our host asked Gerry to come closer to the screen and when he did, a webcam image of himself appeared there. “Gerry, are you ok with this?” to which he shook his head as yes. Then our host addressed us both-

“The rules are as you will see, that the age of consent is to be. A dragon he will be for tonight, but he must decide at age 16 on if (for him), it is right!” he said, to which Gerry nodded , smiling.

Then he turned to the group and said, “Portal home will open in 8 hours, but you will have only been gone for a minute. Be sure to get your envelope with the phrase to change to your old self and back to your new form once more. Lets have everyone here for a group image now!... Closer in please, good- now be steady.... everybody say...Rawrrrr.”

The webcam light was joined by a second and the artificial click noise for the benefit of those of us born before digital photography.

“Enjoy! Please” our host said as the screen went to a Halloween Party logo.
