Did you get into Les Goblins?
I suppose you have teachers and others pros more qualified than me to give you these advice but eh now that I am a pro I need to feel entitled to give "critique" it's a french tradition XD
In : should be a bit faster, you need to stretch the body, the silhouette movement needs to draw a nice curve and legs shouldn't be bend so as to not distract from the direction of the curve..
The spacing seems okay but you need to be careful about the loss of mass.. In real life eyes are much much faster than 24fps or even 60 fps so in animation, you need to emulate the fact that there should never be a blank space between an object on 1 frame and the same object the next frame : you will usually do that by bending and/or stretching stuff.
In your In, there is a blank space between the head on F3 and F4 or F4 and F5 not sure..
the weight on the landing is pretty cool but after that there is way too much going on..
She first rise in a neutral pose then do all stuff she need to do to go into next pose but it's weird cuz all the moves are disconnected..
It would have been better if she got into that pose with the hand on hips right as she rose.
You need to be more economic and hold your pose longer.. less is more.. you will ear that a lot in animation..
BTW the animation on the hair is great!

Thank you very much for the feedback!! It's very much appreciated! And I did actually try to get into Gobelins earlier this year, got even to the interview, but in the end didn't make it :'> I'm currently in Luxembourg doing the BTS/Bachelor program in Animation at 'Arts et MΓ©tiers'
And yeah I really still gotta figure out how to strike a balance between giving movements room to breathe while also keep everything in a good flow, but I'm happy to say that I've already been making progress :0 compared to my older stuff!

wow.. this is honestly ridiculous.. The two most talented ppl I know failed the interview.. Gobelins is crazy..
Maybe it's because you're too good as an illustrator and your style is very strong.. I've heard animation school don't like that because they like to imbue their style onto their students..
So when you're too good for a school you have to be so good that they can't reasonably pass on you, and at Gobelins that's pretty much impossible because of the ridiculous minimal talent requirement.
I got lucky myself, got into ECAS.. we were a thousand applicant and 30 were chosen at the end for the "natural knack" we have for animation.
THey really bet on that supposed talent, some ppl chosen literally couldn't draw at all (to be fair it's for 3D animation) and never did animation at all.. some of them were 30+..
and 6 months later we are all pro and the ones that were really bad at the beginning became crazy good super fast..
I think they really know what they were doing with their talent test..
except maybe for me,
I think I have a good instinct so my lowest level was pretty good (my first animation ever blew everyone away when I was 18) but it seems my level cap is ridiculously low..
I am probably one of those OP 2-stars common unit in facebook RPGs that are super relevant at first and then, become useless as fuck.. XD

Awww that's really cool. However, I feel like her initial jumping motion looks to stiff. Other than that everything looks super cool and smooth. I'm always impressed with your progress Remarin! KEEP IT UP! β₯

I love how the anmation turned out, how fluid the motion is and the personality of the character you show in your work. Your professor is definitely a great teacher, and after thinking about it, their right about the motion between each pose, and the poses themselves, that you mentioned in the description. I never gave it much thought about it at first, but looking back at all the drawings I've done I somehow subconsciously kept in mind the balance of the body in each pose I drew them in. That was an eye-opening experience for me, thanx for that.
I've been thinking of taking up animation, the same kind you work in; the two-dimensional hand-drawn frame-by-frame work you're so awesome at. I was wanting to ask you what advice you would give to take the first steps, and what tools (programs) would be best suited for this kind of animation.
I've always loved this kind of animation and have been wanting to work in it since I was just a kid. I still want to do it just as much as an adult. Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.
Ps. I never heard of "TV Paint" is it good to work in, and easy to learn?

Thank you! And first of all, I recommend these two videos to get a general idea of animation:
youtu.be/KRVhtMxQWRs?list=PLEFβ¦
youtu.be/uDqjIdI4bF4
And to possibly get your hands on this book:
www.amazon.com/Animators-Surviβ¦
Those would be able to give you better ideas on what exercises to do, how to do them, and what to look out for when doing them.
Concerning programs, I started with FireAlpaca (free) youtu.be/mpN5QD9aM4g <-I was introduced to it via this tutorial. I'd also recommend starting with that because, in terms of animation programs, it's possibly one of the simplest. It basically uses the "layer system" as its frames, and has a little preview window you can check your animation in from time to time. That's enough to just focus on frame-to-frame animation and getting your introduction quick and easy.
Next I was told about Krita (also free) which had a couple of more animation features (layers and frames were separate entities, there's a timeline and you have a play/stop button on screen) youtu.be/pKOY4jgdlI0 It's a bit trickier to get the hang off, and even after a couple handfuls of animations I still didn't feel very comfortable with the program.
TV Paint is now a more professional program, and not free. I don't know how good it is compared to other pro-animation programs since I have no idea about that stuff either :'I It's fine? It's gonna take a while to get familiar with, but with this one, I'm actually looking forward to that.
Other than that, the best I can say is: just go for it! The first tries will be tricky as hell, because you gotta get your brain used to trying to break down motion into singular pictures. But don't let that stop you, just keep reminding yourself how awesome it could get when you're able to give life to your art :0c!

Fantastic job making this! Really hope you'll do some battle/fight scenes someday! It's up to you...I'm just making a suggestion that's all. Anyways, keep up the great work!ο»Ώ How do you guys come up with the storyboards for your animations?
π: 0 β©: 1
Remarin In reply to FantasyRebirth96 [2018-12-16 15:17:13 +0000 UTC]
Thanks! I can imagine that it might take a while until we get a battle animation assignment since we haven't even covered walking cycles yet :'> (if we get one in the first place, who knows) I'd probably feel more comfortable if we go through some more fundamentals before tackling fight animation on my own.
And the storyboards were given to us by the teacher (it was really nothing more detailed other than a bean-shape with a circle for head and stick-arms, in 3-4 different poses)
We won't have classes on storyboards until the second semester, so I won't be able to answer you properly until after February :0

Anyone can join, I'm sure you'll fit in right?Β I'm not being paid to say this lol this isn't a promotion. I'm recommending someone like you to join cause you more than likely have good taste in animation. Give it a shot.

I mentioned it at the bottom of the description :> we use TV Paint, and I got myself a permanent license. And before that, I used Krita, a completely free program that has animation features (timeline, frames, the basics) which was more than enough to get into things

Nice work! I love the emotion on her face as she goes through this basic motion. I don't think it was part of your requirement so it was a really nice touch that you added and didn't have to! Way to go above and beyond <3 You hold your forms really well other than the character right arm gains a bit of volume as it rests on the hip but i feel its fine. Your arc's are very nice, squash and stretch is excellent! You did a great job! Nice timing as well!
π: 0 β©: 1
Remarin In reply to Katakire [2018-12-15 21:01:28 +0000 UTC]
Thank you!! At the end of that day I also noticed that the raising arm also grows a tad too long to be just for aiding the effect :'> still really happy with the result since the process and planning, in general, went really smoothly.
((And yeah, I'm finally getting a bit better at timing! It felt really strange for a while to add "long" stretches of pauses in my animation, but god it's so essential! I'm still rushing a bit, but I at least know that I'm making progress :0!))

Katakire In reply to Remarin [2018-12-15 21:08:53 +0000 UTC]
Timing is a struggle for sure. I know i sure fight with it a lot! I also tend to under-exaggerate all my movements so my animations tend to look bland. But you did an amazing job!Β
