This is pretty awesome... really nice job... can you explain how you managed to work with tortillons to make this?

Of course :3. Its main use is usually just to aid with blending, once youve applied a bit of graphite onto an area you can rub the tortillon over it then essentially smudge around it as the tortillon picks up the top layer of the graphite that hasn't fully attached to the paper. I find this very useful for creating the skin texture, to get the slight variations and blemishes that real skin has. Obviously once youve used the tortillon a bit some of the graphite remains on it, so you can use this to then dab over some areas of the skin to create these blemishes and what not :3

Thanks I use a tortillon to blend so thats probably what gives a charcoal effect

Your drawings are very nicely rendered! Personally, I'd prefer there to be some lighter values in the hair to give it more life, but you may not feel the same way. I've also noticed on nearly all your drawings though that your grid lines are always very visible in the finished product. Unfortunately it's very distracting. I think your work would be much stronger if you could eliminate them from the final drawing, ether by blending them in more or drawing them in lighter initially. I also would love to see you link to the reference drawings in the comments, since I always find it intriguing to see how even portrait artists put their own little spin on the subject. :3

Thanks for the tips. I think at times editing the scanned image on Photoshop can exaggerate the grid at times, nonetheless its something i'll look to improve one

Wow! The eyes are captivating! If I may suggest, however, you should try it without the outline and it will be even more realistic, but this is truly amazing! Wish I could draw like that
