Description Remy's ears pricked up as he listened carefully. The trees rustled in the wind, but there was no other sound to be heard.

He sniffed the air. He could no longer pick up the beagle's scent.

He and his friends had penetrated deep into the woods. But now the cheerful boys had grown impatient.

Remy had decided it was time to turn around and go back. His friends had all agreed. They turned around and headed back in the direction from where they came.

But along the way, alarm bells suddenly rang in Remy's head. He looked around the canopy. Nothing looked familiar to him.

"So," said Kyle. "Which way do we go?"

It took Remy much of his strength to keep from panicking. But he managed to remain calm.

"This way." He pointed right ahead. So they continued onward.

After some time had passed, there was still no sign of the way out. Remy's friends grew more and more impatient.

"Are you sure you know where we're going?" asked Scott rather annoyed.

Remy started to tremble and sweat. "Yeah," he said quietly. "Right this way."

He looked around in all directions. At the pathway, up at the canopy, even back at his friends who were clearly getting angry every step of the way.

Remy took a deep breath and picked up the pace. It helped calm him down. His friends too walked faster.

More time had passed. There was still no sign of the clearing.

"This can't be right," said Kyle angrily. "Where are we, Remy?"

"Yeah, where are we?"  asked Scott. "You better not be leading us in circles."

"Where are we?" demanded Bradley.

At that moment, Remy could no longer control himself.

"I don't know!" he cried. "I thought I knew, but now I'm trying to figure it out!"

"You don't know?!" shouted Scott. "You're our leader, you should be able to know!"

Remy trembled. "But I've never been down this far before."

"Well, neither have we. Don't you have any sense of direction?"

Kyle groaned loudly. "I asked my dad for a phone," he muttered to himself. "But no, he said. 'It requires much responsibility.'"

Bradley kicked the ground. "Great!" he shouted. "We're lost! Lost in the middle of the woods with no way to get back and because he can't remember where we came from."

Remy hung his head in shame.

"No," said Richard. "Don't blame him. It's my fault we're in this mess."

"Yeah," said Kyle. We're in this mess because we believed your stupid little story."

"Stupid?!" Richard shouted. "What do you mean stupid? We know what we saw, right Remy?"

Remy was too upset to listen. His friends had counted on him and felt as if he let them down. Big time.

He suddenly recognized something straight ahead. It was the forked shape tree he saw earlier.

"I know where we are!" he cried. He pointed to the tree. "I saw this tree shortly after we crossed the river. "So if we continue on past it-"

"We'll find the river!" cried Richard. "Let's go!"

The boys continued on their way and sure enough they found the river. They skipped across the rocks and made it back to the other side.

"Hey, look." Remy spotted something on the ground. He picked it up. It was oval-shaped and brightly colored. An Easter egg!

Up ahead lay another egg, and another and another. The boys followed the trail of eggs until there were no more to be found.

"Come on!" cried Remy. "It shouldn't be much further. We're almost there!"

They continued making their way forward. Right up ahead of them, they saw the opening in the woods from which they came in from. The boys cheered as they made their way out.

Remy's friends apologized and hugged him.

"You were right all along," smiled Bradley. "You really were a great leader."

Remy smiled. His confidence had been restored.

"Hey, look!" said Richard, pointing back to the woods.

The boys gasped in awe. Standing right in front of them was the beagle they had been searching for.

The beagle smiled and saluted the boys before skipping off back into the woods and out of sight.

The boys broke into laughter and cheers.

Kyle apologized to Richard. "You weren't kidding. That was really amazing."

Richard smiled as the friends made their way back up to Remy's yard.
