This is a cool painting. Here's what my imagination draws as happening here. A big crowd of monks came to pray to their deity. Strange mist has descended upon the land and turned them all temporarily into large stone statues. Now they became one with nature, whether they were expecting to or not. This too shall pass, and in the morning the mist will disappear, and they will become human again. Those who entered the area after the mist descended, such as the guy in lower right, were unaffected by it. Their size or physical state did not change. Thus they could freely wander among the statues and observe the positions in which each monk froze as if this was an outdoors museum...

Wow, I love the atmosphere! It's very menacing, and I'm kind of getting a weird mix between fear, depression, and that "after the storm" kind of calm, like something horrible once happened there. It's a very powerful piece - great job!
