Saabathom is somewhat of a mystery. He resides in an oasis far from large settlements, claiming it for his own. He allows other Reoseans -and humans- to rest and drink, as long as they don't stir up any trouble. Even when he is not physically present, travellers claim to have the feeling that they were being watched. Older folks know of the witch in the oasis and tend to steer clear, muttering things about bad luck and curses.

In truth, Saabat is a diviner, offering answers to the confused and weary that seek him out from the depths of the oasis. He takes care of the oasis and its surrounding vegetation and fauna, hiding it with illusions and warding it with magic, keeping it safe from unsavory folks who would seek to destroy or exploit it. He himself avoids unneccesary talking with others, preferring to get to the point right away. He demands to be treated with a certain amount of respect, almost royalty-like, and will return in kind and tenfold any disrespect shown towards him. He demands pay for his services, and if not offered in advance, he will sooner or later claim something of that person's as his. He is particularly fond of jewelry, crystals and stones. When alone, he likes to wander the nearby desert, hunt, collect plants and watch the carrion birds, which he eventually follows to find bones and feathers- and on rare occasions, a poor sod who couldn't last against the desert.
