Description
This is the costume I wore on the sunday of Manifest. Its not actually mine XD I borrowed it from or most of it anyway. The pants didn't fit so I had to quickly sew them on saturday night, as well as the boot covers, although you can't see them in this picture.I like this picture a lot, mainly because of the emotion I can feel in it. Everyone needs their soft place to rest at one time or another.

Usually people call me Lex, as that's my name, but I've also had people address me as "My King," "Riku," "Rexis," and some others. My forum name varies between Duke and Hitoritengu. Just say whatever you feel like.

When you're making your cosplay outfit, do you usually start from scratch with just a heap of material or do you buy similar clothes and fix them up to look like they're supposed to?

It depends on the costume. Sometimes I make everything from scratch, other times I modify existing clothes, or wear existing clothes as they are if they don't need any modifications. Some costumes are a mix of modified pieces and stuff made from scratch. It all really depends on the costume, your skill level, ad what's available to you.
For example, with this costume I needed to make pants because the girl who loaned me the outfit had smaller hips than I do. I didn't have purple pants to modify, nor did I have time to look, so I made some from scratch.
However some of my other costumes, such as Raito from Death Note, was made from entirely pre-made items of clothing, and all I did was change the buttons on the jacket and take in the under shirt.
