Why are you having a contest at all if you need to ask strangers to enter? Β Maybe it is just not a good time to have a contest. Β I have been online for more than ten years and I don't even have enough people who care what I am doing to hold a contest.

I do not have to be, but when I try to be reasonable it does not get the point across.
Trying to get free art out of people who are clearly attempting to get money from it often annoys them. Β I agree that some of them become nasty out of proportion to the request. Β I should then state plainly that I am not interested in any contests.

Yes, I have had a few of them about. Β Some of these groups I drop pictures in draws them out. Β I had hoped that trying to be clear with my reasons for saying no would be more helpful than just saying no, but I suppose it is hard to unlearn a sense of entitlement.

Some people just can't/choose not to understand the concept of how/why an artist works. Unfortunately there will always be someone willing to pander to their requests, more fool them.
I either just ignore them or point them in the direction of my commissions page if they want me to draw their character.
