"Excuse me?! What was that, Spartan?" The admiral was prone to aggressive out bursts and she would be the first to admit it too. She went up to the Master Chief with a pistol in her hand "Want to say that again?" She snapped holding her gun to his neck.
"Don't you think it's too dangerous for you to come with us? You're not exactly at your best." He wasn't afraid of her and he showed it. Even with his helmet his expression was clear to her. She knew how to read emotions with those who had helmets or masks on. She was use to it with Tali.
"I know my own limits. I don't need you telling me what they are, John." Knyte slowly started to calm down and lower her weapon. " I can still fight and keep going, despite what you might think." She gave a slight sigh. The look on her face was still of hardened anger but her voice calmed and became more cold than anything. "You have to remember, you're not the only one who has been fighting most of their life."
"I could say the same for you, ma'am." She hated when he called her that and he knew it. She thought it was his way of easily getting under her skin and it worked for the most part. The Admiral was about to say something to him when he turned to walk away.
"John, wait." She said walking beside him. What he said next surprised her.
"Remember to come up for air. For the people that need you and look up to you... and also for me." The only time she ever heard anything like that was from Garrus. She couldn't help but look down at they walled down the hall side by side.
"I'd say you were stealing lines from Garrus. But I'll give you credit for that." To her, it felt as if the only one around that knew even remotely what she went through, with the Reaper, Cerberus and everything else like that was Chief. "And that doesn't mean you go off and get yourself killed either; and if you do, I just might go and find someone to bring you back to life just so I can kick your ass." Her smartass threat earned a small chuckle from him. They might not always get along that well but they did care enough for each other and somehow found comfort in each other's company.
