Managed to finished it, somehow, and hopefully the last time I try coloring like this *sighs*. Dedicated to everyone who commented/faved the WIP version! I hope it fulfills more or less your expectations! And special thanks to my brother, who was the best coop partner any test-subject could wish for, and also pointed a lot of mistakes in the early process of this drawing!Anyways, Portal(2). Loved it. So hard.
GLaDOS even quotes once from my favourite scifi story, The Dandelion Girl (who happens to wear dresses in the same colors of the game? white, blue and yellowish-orange?). Did you also know that Chell probably suffers from Broca's aphasia? And tell me, guys, do you think that *pseudospoiler alert* Caroline was actually Chell's mom? Because it seems to be implied but I guess everything is up to fan spehculation. And lab rat should be portal3 main character and Chell should appear in HL3. Amirite?

I'm so happy I found this it will forever be one of my favorite pieces of Portal fan art, there is so much feeling packed into this piece it's amazing.
I'm one of those people that likes the idea of Chell and Caroline being related but I can see the impracticality of it. I always saw Caroline as being a cross between a no nonsense woman to be feared and a girl scout troop leader mom who brought cake for everyone on Fridays. My head cannon is that since Chell was the child of someone who worked at Aperture then whenever she visited Caroline would volunteer to keep am eye one her and that's how the knew each other.Β

I've always though that Chell is either Cave and Caroline's adopted daughter or blood grand-daughter. Think about it: When Aperture was founded in the mid-50s, Caroline was probably fresh out of college, in her early 20s. So, when Cave was dying in the late '80s, she was likely in her 50s or even early 60s. Chell would have been born around that time in all likelihood.
My head-canon? Maybe Chell's parents were Test Subjects who died in an accident and, feeling uncharacteristically guilty, Cave decided to adopt her. It was Caroline (no big surprise) who ended up raising her.

This is, hands down, one of the most beautiful Portal pictures I've ever seen.Β All of them are PERFECTLY done, and I've rarely seen GLaDOS drawn so near to people with her size taken into account like this.Β
Broca's aphasia, hmmm?Β Never thought of it that way, but it's an interesting proposition!Β No, I don't think Caroline is her mother, because she'd have to have been in her forties when Chell was born.Β Given her work and age combined, I find it doubtful.Β Personally I feel HL3 will be a crossover, with Gordon testing on the Borealis.Β

Some clues you can find in the game point out that Chell might be Caroline's daughter (the lyrics to the Cara mia song can be read as a farewell lullaby from a mother to her child), or she might be Cave's daughter (the potato science fair in your "bring your daughter to work's day" has one stand with the name Chell on it). Or the daughter of both. But it's not canon and if you read a few other comments to this picture, a lot of people point out that it's technically impossible for Chell to be the child of either of them. There's a lot of speculah on that topic, I just happen to lie the idea that both of them might be blood related ;-}
Broca's aphasia describes not being able to speak because of brain damage, google it up :-}

Nah, It's okay. I much rather prefer for them not to be blood related. I mean, if she was her daughter it would mean like Chell was "fated" to beat GLaDos, and was not just the random test subject who had what it take to beat the monster in it's game. Being the random "test subject" is much cooler, IMO. ;-}

No, she is not. The game developers themselves said they had no intentions on implying that Caroline is Chell's mother. Plus, the timeline is all wrong. By the time Chell was born, Caroline (who was still alive) would have been in her 60s/70s. And Cave Johnson was already dead.
Besides that, this is very nicely done.

If they did research on the song, they will know that Ellen McPage sung the song off the top of her head, completely without any intentions of hinting that Caroline is Chell's mother. Plus, if I understand correctly, "Cara Mia" is a common nickname used in opera. It is used by an older female to refer to a younger female, related by blood or not. And three, If the song was suppose to be an hint from GLaDOS to Chell that she is her mother, wouldn't it make sense if GLaDOS herself sung the song, not the Soprano Turret?

Beautiful piece, but one of the people who worked on the game said that Chell actually can talk, she just refuses to give GLaDOS (or Wheatley) the satisfaction of a response.

Nah I don't really agree with your idea. I mean about HL3, the fact that Caroline may be Chell's mom, well, that could be true ( Bring your daughter to work day, etc... and C.Johnson, nobody ever say that it was the "C" from Chell or Caroline. ). In my opinion, Chell can't appear in HL3, because HL3 will... errh... I don't know... will be I guess the sequel from HL2ep2/the HL2 ep series, if you know what I mean. And Portal 2 does not belong to this timeline, it's waay lost in the future for being in an eventual HL3 time. But, the lab rat, why not ? The comic let guess that he could be dead, or in stasis. So, nobody really know about his fate here neither.
HL3 could be stuck between the timeline of the HL/Portal event and the Portal 2 event, yet I am not really sure of who can appear here, coming from Aperture Science... GLaDOS maybe, or a sort of GLaDOS like character ?

It's because Chell's name is in one of the science projects and also, during Cara Mira, the turrents sing "mia bambina", which translates something like "my girl" or rather, child, or daughter. I'm not sure, because I actually prefer to think that Chell is the random test-subject who won the game to the machine, but the possibility is there, after all "[Caroline] was a lot like [Chell] , maybe not quite as heavy".
