Maiko Chiyoko-san on the left and Maiko Ichitomi-san on the right ^^ This is actually during their sakkou period. The final 2-4 week period before a maiko debuts as a fully fledged geiko. They both have had their erikae fairly recently (Chiyoko on the 25th and Ichitomi on the 21st) ^^ Both wore beautiful formal black hikizuri which were custom made for them (Signifying that they were both very successful) It's a rare opportunity to see two maiko at the sakkou stages at the same time from the same hanamachi so this picture is really lovely!

Lol I've been studying the culture for over 6 years now so I've gotten familiar with a few faces and try to keep up with the maiko and geiko who are practicing (There are a few blogs that post about news in the different hanamachi, two maiko about to debut is pretty big news~) It's not so rare spotting them together, it's rare to see two maiko at this very last stage together as normally the different erikae are a little more spread out so sakkou stages don't normally fall in line between two maiko but they're a lovely pair together and both joined each other for their various sakkou events including a few of their final ozashiki as maiko ^^ They both seem to be quite fond of each other from what I've seen ^^

Hehe, I got lucky. I saw them on a side street for a minute before they took off in a vehicle. And then I did not see any more geishas all evening. They must be hard to spot.

They are. They don't like to be photographed generally and always make quick getaways.
