Description It's a little comic I whipped up because I'm bored and the coffee my hubby made this morning was good.

Based in part on a real event with my dad's first visit to a Starbucks. He wanted "plain black coffee" and the poor barista was utterly clueless about what he meant. I had to come to the rescue and order him a "Grande Cafe Americano." He shouted, "What the HELL did you just get me?" I explained, "Coffee, black."

(P.S. - I have nothing against Hillary Clinton. I just didn't want to use the face of some hard-working barista.)

And yes, I'm proud to say I'm a goldstar Starbucks virgin. I exclusively drink black coffee, and from witnessing friends' orders the endless suggestions of embellishments from the barista drive me out of my wits.

Haha, thanks! I actually like Starbucks, although their coffee is too sweet in my opinion, but dessert-like stuff like the frozen coffee is realllllly good. I'm a coffee addict, I grind my own beans, I own both a 12-cup drip machine, an espresso maker, and a French press... COFFEE! Haha!

Psh. Starbucks people should realize that they serve straight-up drip coffee. And that it does indeed come in "black." And yet... they always ask if I want room for cream.

Worst case scenario, I've pointed to the pitchers sitting right behind them, and ask for a "grande one of those." Seems to work. Usually.

Haha! You'd think they'd figure out what someone means by "I want a medium black coffee" without spacing out or going into the list of "Would you like Ethiopian, Sumatran, Arabic, Kona..."

Exactly. Medium = Pikes at Starbucks. End of discussion.

We like to simplify things at our little shop. If it isn't specified, we ask "Which brew would you like?" If there isn't a set decision, we do medium. Makes everyone's life easier, it seems. Unless they want decaf. Apparently, we don't do decaf, and either have to do the mega-slow pour-over or a decaf Americano. It's fun to try to explain that one.

But for Janeway? Coffee, black, no questions asked. Maybe a little fangirling on the side, but definitely not while facing said Captain.

I always feel a little guilty when I see a barista's look of pain when I request soy. I was told (not by a Starbucks employee) that soy is harder. I make my own espresso at home, I always use soy, so I don't notice any difference.

Stb uses an assembly line type process for their drinks, I think, so I figure it's more of an "Oh, no, we have Soy in our Cow Milk line!" kind of thing. So I figure it just takes a tad longer because you can't just throw soy into the mix, so to speak, because of potential allergy reactions. But it should absolutely be no problem at all if the Stb isn't in full rush hour. Soy is actually not that much of a deal, unless it's a frapp and the designated pitcher has already been used.

Personally, I like the taste of soy in certain drinks, so I'll go ahead and ask for it, because I've never quite been able to replicate the same drink at home on our little espresso.

For me, it's a milk allergy, but the allergy is mild, just a little rash for half an hour and only if I drink a lot of milk; simple residue does nothing, so I'm not one of those people screaming "Don't you dare get milk in my coffee!" I got a new espresso machine last year after my old one got worn out and something broke (LOTS of coffee making in this house, haha!) I've just bought a French press for home too. I always wanted to try it, and I'm still experimenting with it.

I've never tried French Press before. I've heard it's actually quite amazing, especially compared to traditional drip coffee. I wish I could use our espresso machine as much as I would like, but being the only person up at the time of day (night?) like I usually am kind of nixes the noisy little beast. It's nice and quiet for the milk, but I swear it positively vibrates when you get the good stuff out of it. Usually it makes me laugh, but 3am is too early for me to appreciate its antics.

French press is good. I thought it would be complicated, but it's surprisingly simple. Or I just got a good press. And I agree, espresso machines and sleepy roommates do NOT mix. Mine is smallish, so it's not as loud as some, but still...at 3AM, it's too much.

Never mess with Janeway when it comes to coffee. That's probably the secret to their survival in the Delta Quadrant! Very funny and well done!

Thank goodness for replicators. If Voyager had run out of coffee beans within the first few weeks, the whole Delta Quadrant might have imploded.

Me(to barista):Here's a tip: Don't mess with Katheryn Janeway when it comes to coffee!
Seven: Grrrrr!
Barista: or what? Seven: this *punches Barista w/Folgers can again*
