Description
Needed a break from super tedious ink crosshatching, so I made this. I always forget how much faster pencil is than ink. At least ink the way I use ink, which is to draw with the finest-tip pen I can buy, and build up layers of shading using countless thousands of pen-strokes. To make a large, detailed illustration like that can feel like a Sisyphean task. Though I'm usually pleased with the results, drawing like that is maddening. On the other end of the spectrum, making a realistic pencil portrait, based on a photo, is kind of a breeze. Not much thinking required, my hands do everything on autopilot. Made this mostly in the course of a single evening, it was a pleasant reprieve from my inking. Made with Faber-Castell Polychromos. Drawing realistically based on a single photo always felt more like an artistic-exercise, than actual art; since there's no imagination required. Just my opinion! Anyway, thanks to anyone who read all my disorganized ramblings. Oh, and thanks to lost-teenager for letting me use her photo.
