Description Just finished Urchin and the Rage Tide. While I wasn't the biggest fan of the story this time, the writing, characters, and emotions were great as always. And it made me quite emotional as well. It's so hard to believe it's all over now... I have been reading these books since, what, 2007? And they've been a big inspiration to me and my own stories.

Also, I stumbled upon an interesting little tidbit -- the illustrator of the book covers of the Dutch translation has let it slip on his website that the script has been sold to a movie studio. So there's quite the possibility there's gonna be a movie based on these books? I do hope so, and I also hope they won't fiddle with it too much. There's quite a body count for a book about cute animals living on a peaceful island...

I think this is my favorite Mistmantle pic made by you, Urchin looks so cute.

I was actually crying a bit at the end of Urchin and the Rage tide.

And I really hope they make a Mistmantle movie, or better yet the whole series into movies.  (after all they did make the entire Harry Potter series into movies didn't they?)

Great drawing of Urchin. He looks so cute.

These books have been a great inspiration to be as well. (Though, I haven't even read the last two books because those aren't available in my country.)

A Mistmantle movie? Hm... Well, I just hope they do the story justice. And the characters, especially. Those were what made the story so great.

Thanks! :3

You could always buy them online if reading English books isn't too much of an issue to you. Bol.com has them, I think! I bought them online, even if it was quite a hassle trying to figure out which characters were which. Most of the names were different.

Definitely, yes! Well, if they keep the general mood of the books intact I think it'll be cool.

Well, at first I didn't want to read them in English because I was used to the Dutch names. But now I kinda changed my mind. I've been talking a lot to other Mistmantle fans here on DeviantArt, so I know most English names now anyway. And I really want to know how it ends. (Though... I've heard sad things happen in the last book.)

The final book made me cry once or twice, so I'll say it's very emotionally moving indeed. But yeah, they're really good books nonetheless, and I hope you decide to read them too.

Alight! I've been waiting for you to upload this! And it looks *AWESOME*! Completely awesome!

Whoa, *really*? There's actually going to be a Mistmantle movie?! ^^ Yeah, I hope they do justice to it. Heh heh, but I wonder if it'll be 2D or CGI? Probably the latter, which would be cool, though if they did in 2D... I know this is biased, but I still like 's style most of all for the characters. But oh well, it'll probably just be CGI.

It's probably gonna be CGI, though I would be pleasantly surprised if they did it in 2D. 2D would be very interesting, and it would fit -- would be reminiscent of old 80's-90's (fantasy) animal books getting adapted to TV shows like Redwall and The Animals of Farthing Wood.

I like that style too!

Yes... only I'd want the Mistmantle books to be done much better than the Redwall books were. Actually, I think the Don Bluth style used in "The Secret of NIMH" would be somewhat appropriate for Mistmantle... well, only a little when it comes to the dark stuff. In general I actually see Mistmantle as kind've elegant and regal, more so than the Redwall books, oddly enough.

Yes. Its such a great style.

I tried to watch the Redwall cartoon but I got distracted. xP To be honest I kinda like the books and the show but I'm disappointed that some animals are just standardly considered villains, and they just happen to be my favourite animals. D: (sans badgers of course) but yeah! Mistmantle is something unique on its own. And Don Bluth's style would suit it really well!

I think the cartoon was okay (I actually saw that before I even heard of the books), but there are quite a few flaws. But either way, yeah...

Yes, that's the most common complaint about the books, that 'good animals' (aka 'woodlanders') comprise of mice, otters, squirrels, hedgehogs, moles, shrews, badgers and hares, whereas 'bad animals' (aka 'vermin') are weasels, stoats, ferrets, rats and foxes.

However, almost each book has 'gray characters', meaning that there have been good vermin and bad woodlanders. There are actually quite a few of those, much more than most fans realize. Or, if said good vermin aren't really out-and-out good, they're relatively harmless and allowed to go their way. Same with bad woodlanders; they're not really evil, but they're still disagreeable and don't really get a happy ending.

Yes, the style for "Secret of NIMH", there's always something incredibly sinister about it that creeps me out, even as an adult. And that would suit certain aspects of the Mistmantle-realm perfectly.
