You are underwater and unalarmed.
Like a cat who's been in this spot since the first winter you remember.
You are X-rayed and X-cellent
Adorned and Adored
Boxed, yet bushy.

Happy smile guiles and whimsically whiskered.

I faved this long ago, but I never commented...Let me rectify that oversight:

This is a great portrait, Richard...I love the laurel framing your face, the glow around your beard, and the lightness of your eye(s). Hanan's editing finishes it off beautifully.

Thanks very much, Yvette, it's great to have your comments. This was thoroughly collaborative, and I take it a little bit for granted now that it's possible, but when I stop to think about it - wow!

Thanks very much! Hanan wanted me to do a self portrait of some sort, I experimented with all kinds of things, and this one really worked.

I love this image so much. I can't tell if you are slowly being buried or unearthed. Laurels create the tension by covering your eye.

Thank you! This was a mix of an idea with some luck, and you're right, the covered eye is what really made it happen.

I find it hard to be peaceful in a self portrait, but you really managed to look extremely peaceful.

Thanks, Jean-Daniel. I wasn't quite sure what I was doing, but I put everything out of my mind except looking into the lens and getting the shot, and it worked out well in this case.

In a way, it reminds me some of "merge with nature" images, in a more peaceful way. With yours in mind, I might try a few more in the series.

I just looked at that series, J-D, I really like it and I see what you mean about the similarity and the difference. It would be great to see more.

I had some luck with my shot too, a stretch of sunny, warm weather - it's been too rainy lately for any kind of shot inside the greenery!

I heard you and made a few more this week-end, Richard.

Rain gives some very interesting lights, that is captured and reflected by leaves... but what a pain with the camera indeed!

'...A distant voice from the BBC World Service was describing something very strange - a face made out of leaves, a pagan carved image found in Christian cathedrals, a descendant of the horned god of the woods, the spirit of nature, lover of the Goddess.

And yet, perhaps strangest of all, was the feeling that, as the programme unfolded, I had the increasing sensation that this image - the Green Man - was not unfamiliar to me. It even seemed perfectly natural, as if I had always known about it...'
