Description Lately I've been feeling..................I dunno----------Rootin' Tootin, I guess.
Anyway, I thought I'd have a go at drawing an old west Locomotive, and rather than just drawing the train, I wanted to think of something interesting to do with it. I had several ideas, but my daughter had the best idea: throw in a couple of masked desperados.................(Thanks, Tikara!!!)
I now officially have Spurs that jingle jangle jingle............. hope you like......

"Aaaaaaannnnnnndddd it's a hat-trick of faving!" to quote the immortal Jerry Lewis; or Wayne Gretzky. Both are cool in their own way.

Of course I'm faving this because I'm called TRAINwrekcomics, and this is a TRAIN robbery!

It's a sign! 80

Ricky-Roo302 In reply to words-to-paper [2007-06-06 18:47:20 +0000 UTC]

Hey, Katie---sorry to abandon our chat, I really DID go immediately to Amazon to search out "The Gift" (turns out it's only in hardback at present and costs over $20---can't quite afford it at present, but I will eventually aquire the Trilogy when I have some extra $$$$$)
...regarding my reading preferences, it would be a shorter list to itemize what I DON'T read. I read everything. Poe, Shakespeare, A. Conan Doyle (Sherlock Holmes---YES!!!), politics, opinion, theology, Scripture, Graphic Novels and comic books, Time, Newsweek, on and on and on....
How 'bout you? Do you have any interests outside the Fantasy genre of "The Gift"?

Yeah, Texas rocks!!! Y'see, the trains here don't look like that anymore. I wish they did. Makes a more Western feel to it. Are there any kind of trains in Alaska?

Ricky-Roo302 In reply to eliyggdrasil [2006-09-20 11:59:32 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I'm sure there are trains on mainland Alaska---I live on an Island, no trains on Kodiak.

eliyggdrasil In reply to Ricky-Roo302 [2006-09-20 13:46:11 +0000 UTC]

Cool, I wish I could live on an island! Hey, but do you get to see any Kodiak bears?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ricky-Roo302 In reply to eliyggdrasil [2006-09-22 03:50:54 +0000 UTC]

Yes, Eli, I do get to see bears. They often hang out outside of town at the city dump looking for dinner, but they have been seen scrounging around in the dumpsters within the city(all of Kodiaks' dumpsters have signs that say "BE BEAR AWARE!!").They can be very dangerous, so I don't really go looking for them, but tourists to the Island often book Flightseeing tours to spot bears from a small plane. This island is a Paradise of animal life; it is a sanctuary for American bald eagles, and there are sea lions down at the harbor, whales passing through on their migrations, foxes, deer, Alaska King Crab, salmon, halibut, sea urchins, all manner of sea life.......and aside from all of that, it is so BEAUTIFUL up here in Alaska. This is really a most amazing place!!!!

eliyggdrasil In reply to Ricky-Roo302 [2006-09-23 03:16:52 +0000 UTC]

The bears wander into the city?! Wow. I hope they don't hurt people if no one bothers them.

Sounds like a great place to visit. But I bet I wouldn't be used to the cold weather. It's kinda warm down here.

Really well done I like your srawing style - it's never too cramped or confusing. The smoke and train are particularly rootin' tootin'!

Ricky-Roo302 In reply to MIDeviant [2006-09-14 10:53:12 +0000 UTC]

Thank you, MIDeviant.
At tha risk of asking a stupid question----have you ever heard that American expression "rootin' tootin'"? I love playing with the English language, with all of its' ridiculous slang (will-nilly, hootchy-kootchy, hunky-dory, oopsy-daisy, on and on and on.......
I really like watching Prime Minister's Questions on C-SPAN because, although the accents can be (what we Yanks would call) "thick", every member of Parliment speaks with such wonderful articulation. ---and then I watch our own American congress, and they sound like neanderthals by comparison.....
My heritage is British (my last name being Chamberlin), and I'm very proud of that.
Thanks for dropping by to comment!!!!!

That's very interesting to read, and yes we have heard of "rootin' tootin'" but you never hear it mentioned in speech. It's very much associated with 'rednecks' or Texas Cowboys - kind of what we see in your picture! It's usually used in conjunction with American marketing - indeed - we would see a KFC advert with 'The Colonel' saying 'try our new rootin' tootin' spicy chicken' or something along those lines. Willy-nilly is very much an old woman's phrase, hunky dory is used occassionaly as a light hearted way of saying 'fine'. 'Ooopsy-daisy' is typically used by mothers interacting with their babies, or at least thats how I see it being used (Ooopsy-daisy, you've spilt your milk') and I've never heard of hootchy-kootchy! If I can think of any more I'll let you know. But it's not the sort of thing you hear every day

p.s - There are a family of 'Chamberlins' in this area - British indeed!
