Scars/Marks: Scar above his left pectoral from an arrow. Has a heart shaped birthmark beneath his left eye.
Love Interest: Galaxis.
Territory: Heart Nation
Personality: Cheerful. Gentle. Affectionate. Loving. Sweet. Becomes emotional with little provocation, especially after a job (only Galaxis can calm him). When he’s “working,” Ace becomes “heartless.” Because of his empathetic abilities, he locks down his own feelings to access those of the ones being interrogated.
Mannerisms: Snuggling close to Galaxis after coming out of his “work” haze. Peering over shoulders to observe people at work. Getting teary-eyed over misunderstandings. Mood tends to sway to match those around him. Gathering up another’s hands into his when speaking one-on-one.
Likes: Vegetarian; will eat fish for nutrients if forced but doesn’t like the taste of meat. Green tea. Rice of all kinds. Lime wedges in his water. Sweets, especially cakes. Physical contact, especially from Galaxis; he really likes having his head stroked or skritched. Playing shogi and poker (undefeated at the latter so he doesn’t get to play much). Likes reading though it tends to make him emotional.
Dislikes: Meat of any description. Too much salt. Coffee. Being ignored or disliked. His ability. Being stared at with scrutiny. People who are cruel and/or use others as sacrifices for their own gain.

**Ace is one of the Card Suits, quadruplet siblings with special abilities that are divided amongst the four main continents. Please see the link in the comments for more details on their lineage and abilities**

Ace is often a target for assassination, for two reasons. One, his abilities allow him to find out confidential and crucial information, so he’s feared by the enemy, and two, he is not trained in any kind of self-defensive techniques so he’s an easier target when he’s alone. An archer managed to strike him in the chest with an arrow; it was aimed for his heart. However, since he has dextrocardia situs inversus (condition where the upper organs are reversed in placement), the arrow missed its mark. It was around this time that Ace met Galaxis, a rogue fox demon who was weak from hunger, and relentlessly hunted by the Heart soldiers. Galaxis since became one of Ace’s personal bodyguard, and they’ve been inseparable.

His role in Heart Nation is interrogator: since he is an empath, he is sensitive to emotional state, he can tell when a person is distressed, even if they have a good poker face. Ace also has sharp eyes for behavioural tics and tells. When he uses his ability, his eyes discern heart rate, making him a human lie detector. However, this job leaves him emotionally drained and unstable because he taps into other people’s emotional state, thereby replacing his own and sometimes forgetting himself in the process. Galaxis is the one individual who can “restore” him to “Ace” again.

Unlike his siblings, Ace’s abilities are not much use in battle; they might serve well in negotiations of all kinds or emoting sympathy if his life is threatened by a face-to-face assassin, but otherwise, he is merely a target. He has several guards who protect him specifically, mostly Galaxis, Musashi and Shiro, but he has them protect Heart Nation as well, since he cannot do the same. However, they remain loyal to him; Ace is a gentle, lighthearted person who does what he can to bring smiles to others, and all three men believed themselves unworthy of love. Ace is the first person to care about them being alive, so they in turn devote their lives to him alone. Their guardianship makes Heart Nation difficult to invade.

Ace is fairly sheltered. He does not like being in crowds because individual emotions suddenly ambush his mind; they are harder to filter out when there are lots of people around. It’s also hard for him to just go out and walk around because he is so often a target for assassination, leaving him fearful of open and unprotected spaces. This mild agoraphobia, however, conflicts with his open nature and desire to cheer people up. The castle staff knows him well and try to take care of Ace’s “mood swings,” from the need for social interaction to when he suddenly needs to be isolated. Ace has been at Heart Castle since he and his siblings were divided to their individual territories; he does yearn for the freedom to travel and see more of the world and its beauty but feels like he’ll never have the chance so long as the Card territories stay in conflict with each other. He envies Jack’s ability to travel wherever he pleases.

Born from the union of a mortal woman, Vanille Tertia, and the demon, Arkanial, these individuals all contain special abilities that are related to their sight. They wear glasses in order to see as an ordinary human.

The abilities were meant to exist in one individual (as is the case with Joker, see below), but Vanille's second pregnancy ended with quadruplets, and the four abilities divided amongst them.
