Description Lunchtime found me in the uncut yard,
seeking cotoneaster planted years before,
left like a child, to thrive or die.
Still there, it sputtered green
beneath black raspberry and goldenrod.
Berries coming on
tasted of shade and sun;
grass reached high as knees
where it broke through.
Behind the bluebird box
a bloom of milkweed grew,
and listen,
it was alive
in more than ordinary ways.
Honeybees bustled:
a honeybee O'Hare.

I must admit my ignorance on the matter - I've not sought the name or heard it before, but seeing the dialogue of commentary looked it up to become less ignorant. "Learn something new every day," I am told. Thanks for the opportunity to do so.

There ya go again, takin' me somewhere other than this lil' ol' cubicle. I'm seeing this scene. And that bit of alliteration gives it a rhythm of summer.

That's Lance and you I guess.

Well I just got an education.
Very interesting. I Googled thinking this might
be a Chicago reference.
I don't believe our bees have to face such a
trial as that--they have other survival issues
but not that. Uncut fields are burgeoning at the moment.

I used to think it was Cotton Easter. 'Coton' is spanish for 'cotton'. And Easter is english for Easter. Sooooooo...
