My reaction to seeing the 368/2 Days trailer at the Tokyo Games Show. (Yes, I was actually there in the closed theatre!)I'm sure many people here already know my stance on sues (heck, this isn't the first comic I've done about them; [link] ), but I just had to do this.
I would never have thought the same studio that wrote the scripts for KHCoM and KH2 would have such bad writing as to bring in not only a Mary Sue, but one of the sueiest sues that ever sued. Best friends with Roxas and Axel? Has dramatic scenes with Riku? Wields a keyblade? Keeps running away, and has to have Axel come and drag her back? At least there's a good chance she'll die a dramatic death, but you know what? That's ANOTHER thing Sues are famous for! Argh!
...oh well, at least Birth by Sleep looks much more awesome.

*EDIT* GUYS, I'm not bashing a character "I know nothing about". I've seen the closed theatre trailer, which shows quite a lot of her character. Quite enough, to be honest.
This is my response to that. I understand a lot of you haven't seen the trailer, and so don't have as strong an impression of Xarmy's character as I do, but you can stop telling me I'm not allowed to have an opinion on her. No, really.
*EDIT2* ...and now I've played the game too. I rest my case.

While I don't hate Xion, she IS definitely my least favorite among Sora's headmates. Frankly, I feel Namine did the whole "Mary Sue deconstruction" a little better, mostly because Namine A) wasn't retconned into the cannon, and B) actually screwed with Sora's head.

This is perfect and you are perfect.
I didn't play the game, but I watched the cut scenes from the 1.5 release. I did get 100% of the trophies from that "game", but it was both the easiest and the hardest game that I've 100% completed. Easy because it's just cut scenes and journals. Hard because Xarmy is a Sue to the point of being painful.

Honestly, if you think about it, Xion's story is about a Mary Sue who became aware of what she is... She realized she existed solely as a tool to help someone else live out their fantasies (Xemnas made her as a tool to collect hearts) and that she was sucking the life out of the story she was in (her very existence was causing both Sora and Roxas trouble) and thus chose to write herself out of that story (allowing herself to die and give up Sora's memories) in order to put the proper protagonist back in his place (urging Roxas to fight back with her final breaths).
It's quite meta if you think about it, and I like that.

While I don't agree with how you think of Xion, I must say that this is pretty funny. It's always great to make fun of something you love, as long as it doesn't get too harsh...I can't really see harshness in the art itself, but your artist comment does qualify.
And if we're going to start throwing around the term "Mary Sue", which has practically lost all meaning (as it is usually used for "This is a character I hate, so I'm going to call them a 'Mary Sue'"), then you should probably throw it at every single original character in Kingdom Hearts. Thanks for the amusement, though.

I must say, I disagree with your hatred of Xion, and I'm not the first to explain why. But I'm not so blindly biased in her favor as to deny that this is hilarious. This is dA, a place for art, not arguments about a character's writing quality, or at least, not primarily. And since you expressed your opinion through art, you win this round!

I like all character of the KH series but from what people say the only people who really hate Xion are yaoi fan girls. Hell play the game and she is a deconstruction of a Copy cat sue character. But if you don't like her that's your right.

I believe what you are thinking of is the cannon sue due to the fact that Xion is a cannonical character. However, I personally do not think that Xion is a sue. In fact, I think the term Mary Sue has a bad habit of getting thrown around a little too much in fandom. Which is why I would prefer to restrict the term "Mary Sue" to just fanfiction.

...Eh...Xion is, if anything, a deconstruction of a Sue. He sole reason for existing is to grow close to Roxas so she can absorb him. Her creators don't care about her life and simply treat her as a back up in case things don't go the way they want.
When all is said and done Xion's role in the series is far from Mary Sue territory.

Heh, "dramatic scenes with Riku," no kidding. I'd prefer the friendship tie-ins that happened between him and Kairi and Namine in KH2 and KHCoM.

the reason y ppl think she is a mary sue is because she is female and 'get in between' yaoi pairings. That is why kairi is considered a sue.
As a matter of fact, she doesn't really possess much ms traits. Sora's a bigger sue/stu that she is and no one complains.

You are completely misunderstanding what a Mary-Sue is. They're beautiful, powerful, intelligent, and have mad skills. They tend NOT TO DIE! Xion is as far from a Mary-Sue as you can get.

I actually liked Xion. I thought she was a pretty cool deconstruction of the Mary-Sue character. But I still thought this was pretty funny, and I sometimes call her a Mary-Sue.
