I actually went about designing Ty's dad, since I already had his mom and whatnot. His name is James. He was part of his planet's military. He died fighting against an evil force trying to take the planet when Ty was a baby. This entire ordeal eventually ended with the destruction of the planet. Fortunately, there had been some warning and a large scale evacuation took place, meaning that basically no one died during the destruction. Star Command had not been as large an organization as it was by the time of BLoSC, but they had aided in the fight and eventual evacuations. And that's like a micro-bio for James.

Design-wise, I wanted it to be clear what traits Ty inherited without him being like a carbon copy of either parent. He and his mom have approximately the same skin tone and face shape, but he has his dad's nose and eyes. His hair color is somewhere kind of between James' and Michelle's colors. Also, when Ty hasn't styled his hair, its curly like his mom's. And James is Ty's middle name for kind of a turducken of a reference.

James and adult Ty are from a fun accidental time travel story line in my head. Because a part of me wants him to have some kind of meeting with his dad. Its full of the fun sort of tropes of not being sure anyone should know about him being from the future and angsting over the various aspects of and implications of time travel, implicitly, what trying to change the fact his dad died in an upcoming battle would do to the universe. Maybe I'll pursue that. Who knows.
