Description The first airplane most visitors see at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Virginia is U.S. Air Force Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird No. 61-7972, which made good use of its "Mach 3+" capabilities (exact limit not publicly known) to set two speed records: a transatlantic flight of 1:54:56 and a transcontinental flight of 1:08:17.
