(Updated 1/16/24) Wanted to add a more of a fleshed out critique, and expand on more of his role in REGT.

I keep saying it, and I will say it again: Cami did Papyrus DIRTY in Glitchtale, especially with how she draws his head and give him that ugly potato bag outfit towards the end of the series. I'm all for stylization and whatnot, but the way she drew him is just insult to the gapping wound of his butchered characterization; Cami made him into a nearly incompetent, cry baby wimp, that's antithetical to the grand prestige of The Great Papyrus himself! That's not to say there weren't moments of Papyrus that I actually liked, such as the Love Part 1 talk he has with Gaster. I felt like that did a great job of capturing Papyrus' optimism and how he wants to lift up those who turn to him for support. Hell, I'll even say it's accurate that he'd want to try to help Jessica redeem herself--if her arc wasn't rushed--given his genocide run encounter. While I don't plan to do the stupid revival with hate thing Betty does with Sans, I do like the concept of Papyrus using Love to save his brother and it being used as a solution to defeating their enemy as a good turning point...If Cami actually stuck with it, instead of letting Chara consume Hate later for fanservice reasons.

Where he falls flat for me is his ineptitude to fully assert himself. I believe Papyrus is fully capable of standing up for himself in a more pronounced manner, as I depicted here. That, and his unwavering confidence which made him so lovable in Undertale to begin with is primarily absent and this becomes much more apparent as the series continues; Essentially, he suffers similar characterization issues as Undyne. He's always been a favorite character of mine, and to see him downgraded this bad makes me upset.

Also why can he heal. Why. Where did this even come from.

Papyrus is a Skeleton-Monster who likes to say "Nyeh Heh Heh!". He's known throughout Ebbot City as a Good Samaritan, giving his heroic aid to those who need him. Like in the Underground, Papyrus is still 'training' to become a member of the Royal Guard, having more than spaghetti to cook up now that he lives on the surface!...which brings about questionable results. In the meantime, Gaster hired Papyrus to serve as a Security Guard at the lab, which allows the two skeletons to grow a closer bond with each other, even tolerating those irritating puns he and his brother Sans dish out at every waking chance! He'll even help Frisk with their tutoring sessions with Gaster.

However, the peace doesn't last too long. He is tasked with protecting Metatton's first surface concert , however he is framed by Jessica Grey and tricked by Betty to murder a crowd of civilians, and the next thing he knows is being stuck inside a jail cell...Just who was that little girl on to of the crane, anyway? More importantly, how can he prove his innocence? After the evidence submitted by Asriel drops him of his charges, Papyrus stands tall in the face of his brother's death, realizing he will just need to work twice as had to make everyone smile again. However, his mercy of Jessica draws a major point of confliction amongst the crew. Papyrus believes hurting Jessica wouldn't bring back Sans, and that she's suffering a hard loss and acted out in her grief as Asgore once did. He's not denying her villainy of course, but that even the worst of folks can change if they're given a chance. Thus, he sides with Frisk in the endeavor of redeeming Jessica, that ultimately leads to a falling out between him and Gaster later.

When Gaster becomes consumed by Hate , Papyrus stands in his way as a voice of reason, using Love alongside his friends to rid the darkness from his heart. In the end, Gaster sacrifices himself to drag Hate down in the void along with him, yet he is at peace knowing even if this anomaly shouldn't have anyone here in the first place that he is still welcomed with open arms. Despite the bittersweet ending, the Skeleton stands tall as the hero he always wanted to be!

Design Notes!

-Fixed his skull, that's a must.
-Cami really just slapped a shirt on him and called it a day, huh? I refuse to believe he wouldn’t write COOL on it or something.

-In part, gave him a vest to break up the colors a bit.

-Added more blue back to his palette for some sweet contrast!

-His boots needed some flair too! That’s like his thing.
-Papyrus still wears his OG battle body before it gets busted. I'd imagine he'd still have his other clothes from Undertale as well. Let him be silly PLEASE
