Description
Photograph of the great comedy geniuses, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, during the filming of the classic film 'Sons of the Desert' (1933). This scene was as Olly was trying to woo his lady with a rendition of 'Honolulu Baby' at the door, together with his sidekick Stan (see below)

Laurel and Hardy's comedy was often visual and slapstick, although dialogue was also used albeit sometimes a little awkwardly due to sound only recently becoming available in film making. Often scenes were 'over-acted' reflecting that most film actors at the time were from the theatre stage era. Quite often scenes involved 'one upmanship' or 'tit- for tat' scenarios i.e getting one over each other or an adversary in an ever iincreasing desire for revenge. Both of them were often shown as henpecked boyfriends or husbands by a series of dominant women actresses.
Stan Laurels trademark look would often involve screwing his face up and appearing to cry whilst playing with his 'fright wig' long top hair so that it looked as if it was standing on it's end. Hardy's trademark was twiddling with his tie to try and hide an embarrassing situation in front of someone else, or by the "camera look" where he breaks the imaginary fourth wall (the invisible wall between him and the camera) and, in frustration, stares directly at the audience when he feels exasperated by a situation.
These comedy greats still stand the test of time after all these years and are among my favourites. A lot of the outside film locations they used are still there today but, sadly, I couldn't find this address. Perhaps somebody could help me find it today?. All I know is that is at 2220 and 2222 something Road, probably somewhere in Culver City Los Angeles. (Yes they often used real addresses for filming!).
After some detective work, it was found out that the background of this photograph was actually filmed in Hal Roache's studio (hence the good quality of it I think), but the outside road scene in the link above is here www.google.co.uk/maps/@34.0250… I think, as it's changed beyond all recognition? (thanks to the amazing efforts of oisinnoir for helping me out to find this location )
