Description An homage to Matt Jeffries, who would have been 91 today. His "ringship", which seemed to be the original concept behind "Andromeda". Memories of 1970's Lincoln Enterprises abound!

Model by David Metlestis!

simple elegance! pity we didn't (as of yet) didn't get to see more of this ship in trek. i'm astonished that this design of matt jefferies is similar to NASA's concept warp ship, and so is your own Uss Sagittarius design in the seekers novels.

RobCaswell In reply to CyberRaven [2015-01-19 17:50:33 +0000 UTC]

Well the NASA design that got all the publicity was done by a frequent Star Trek modeler, so that may lend some of the similarity.  But the two-ring design of the Alcubierre warp concept does bear a striking similarity to the ring ship components. Old Matt Jeffries was just a tech prophet, I guess

The man knew his stuff. It's shocking how close this is to the "real" conceptual Enterprise they're talking about building...

...And God I hope that ship, and that name stick. It would be a dream come true. A space-warp ship named Enterprise, boldly going where no one has gone before.

Well done on this render. It's an elegant and beautiful design.

I rather doubt we'll see a warp ship in our lifetime, but I'd be delighted to be wrong about that

What can I say? I dare to dream that we may yet see a revolution of thought in our life time.

Always liked this ship, admittedly, I always like the way the Andromeda Ascendent that they eventually used was so advanced it looked alien, but this one here is still a very nice design.

Interesting to note that the NASA concept Enterprise is also a ring ship.

It's more interesting to me that Jeffries would use this design decades before the Albicurrie warp drive was proposed. Good ole Matt J. was prescient that way.

I was trying to evoke the design before it got adopted by Trek, from '79 onward.

Mr. Jeffries was a friggin genius---designs that real engineers gaze upon and murmur, "Hmmm, could be."

Yep... that's what SF used to be. Now it's kind of the other way round, with many SF authors struggling just to keep up.

That's what I love about Heinlein novels---he was an engineer, trained at the U.S. Naval Academy, holder of patents that are to this day classified top secret.
Write what you know...gawd, I miss that cranky old perv.
