So, let this be the first work that I'm going to comment after my break

The "baby steps" by the master of cool designed Sci-Fi Visions!
(well, we both know where else you master in, but I guess we wont see that here )

And even after your long hiatus these "baby steps" don't miss a thing of what I love in your works.
The elegance with which you're composing atmosphere and depth. The weight of lights and colours that gives substance to a "simple" shot.

I guess it's true to say that a master's baby steps are still giant in compare to others

Welcome back, dear!

I'm flattered to be number one on your list after your digital vacation, and thanks so much for the glowing, supportive words!   I expect my return to be interesting... at least to me. We all grow in how we fashion art and where our aesthetic sensibilities lead us. It's been about four years since I really did much 3D art. In that time, my view of "what makes an ideal image" may have changed.... mostly due to looking back on my older work with a cuttingly critical eye. So.... we'll see what unfolds. I feel like I've gotten over the big re-learning hump, though, and I'm starting to have fun again!

LmAnt In reply to RobCaswell [2020-01-16 19:32:33 +0000 UTC]

Every other piece of work to be the first would have been totally wrong

Never forget it was you who brought me to here!

And I agree about the growing and such.
...and I'd like to add that - as soulless as it is: The equipment we have can help us growing too!
So, how's your new machine doing?

The new box is doing well. It's not giving me any problems. The challenge is all mine - getting up to speed with what Windows 10, Photoshop 2020, and DAZ 4.12 offer me. And at the same time I'm trying to expand my understanding of microbiology, which has nothing to do with making pictures and everything to do with getting a better personal understanding of how the world works. In some ways I feel like my brain is getting thirstier for knowledge as I age!?!

Anyway, I'm hoping to get at least one new work done this weekend. HOPE! HOPE! HOPE!

I think it's the best that can happen to you, of your brain is thirsty for new knowledge!
They say it prevents us from getting old (or at least from feeling it )

Excellent near-future, retro-futurist feel.
That main viewport, though...

RobCaswell In reply to TheAtomicDog [2020-01-14 16:03:36 +0000 UTC]

Kibaretto's design definitely evokes something of a 70's John Berkey feel - in a good way! The large main window reminds me a bit of what we've seen with the shuttles of government elites on The Expanse (read: providing HUGE, unobstructed views).

Going back to the 70s when airbrush art was truly in ascendance, you can see all kinds of personal aircraft/spacecraft with panoramic bubble viewports. Scrolling through the inventory on this rather wonderful site (not mine, btw)
70sscifiart.tumblr.com/
will expose you to so many great examples.

RobCaswell In reply to TheAtomicDog [2020-01-14 18:56:38 +0000 UTC]

Yep - the vast viewports were definitely a Berkey aesthetic.

Berkey, McKie, Mead...
It was on all of the cars back then, too, before everyone hotched the beltline up to your shoulder.

Very nice!  Those pylons seem too wide, like sitting targets for enemy vessels.

RobCaswell In reply to FactionParadox [2020-01-14 02:25:19 +0000 UTC]

Er... maybe. If someone were shooting at you.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FactionParadox In reply to RobCaswell [2020-01-14 04:56:28 +0000 UTC]

That does seem to happen a lot.  Why make yourself more of an easy target?!  There is an unofficial fan-class known as the Ark Royal class (two engines, not the one with four engines) that has its pylons WAY out to each side and they just stick out like wings and all I can think of is how most of the star trek Federation ship designs have this problem.  If you look at the trend of smaller ships and even larger ones that break that mode and have the engines set closer to the main hull or even inside the main hull, for example the DEFIANT (DS9 version), The VALIANT, based as an evolution of the DEFIANT only much larger, The Saber class and the Steamrunner class, we see the Federation designs changing drastically towards the end of the 24th Century moving into the very early 25th Century, It seems as though they finally realized the use of elaborate pylons is a design flaw.  One thing about the 2009 JJ-prise, we see the engines MUCH closer together even while they are on pylons.  The engines are very close together unlike on the TOS ship.  The engines DO NOT NEED to be so far apart.

While its shape is clearly a homage, this is not a Trek ship.

While it bears a "saucer and nacelles" shape, I don't think of this a Trek ship. But as the viewer.... well, you can interpret it however you like!
