Description The Triggerman came out from a rather interesting place.

WAY back in the day, Bill Willingham of Fables fame was once charged with taking over the Robin title at DC.  I remembered him talking about his plans for the title, and his interesting idea of giving Robin his own version of the Joker  Willingham's plan was to have Robin face off again an average, ordinary bad guy, only for a tragedy to happen to the bad guy, which would push him onto greater villainy.  Much like how the Joker was originally just a two-bit hood before he was dunked into a vat of chemicals and became the monster that made him infamous.  It sounded like a rather exciting idea.

And then Willingham made Robin's Joker into a one armed tool named Johnny Warlock who was powered by an evil mystical demon stick who shot energy beams and was never seen again his first storyarc aside from a single cameo in another book.

So, yeah, it was a bit of a letdown and a missed opportunity.  But I was intrigued by the idea of a nobody, someone no one thought much of, becoming a terrifying and nightmarish villain.  I wanted something very simple and basic, since his terror would come not from his appearance but his actions.

The idea I had for him was that he was just an average guy from a bad neighborhood.  Wanting to get out of his dire financial situation, and fancying himself an artist, this guy would agree to help out a bunch of hoods pull what was to be a simple job.  However, things would go bad, and the average guy would lose his right hand and most of his face mangled as a result.  Breaking him psychologically, this guy would fall off the deep end, fully embracing the notion of villainy and deciding that, if he could be an artist in the world of art or music, he'd be an artist in the world of crime.  He wouldn't commit acts of horror and villainy for profit or revenge, but for the simple action of committing it.  H aspired to be, as the Joker in the Dark Knight said, a "Better Class of Criminal."

For his look, as I said I wanted to keep it simple.  I saw his gun arm as being a fusion of several different types of firearms, such as a standard rifle, automatic weapon, grenade launcher, shotgun, and two pistols all spot welded together.  He'd have the control elements of this unique weapon fused to the remnants of his ruined hand and arm, so he can choose which weapon to fire as easily as we would choose which finger to flex.  He wouldn't have a very complex costume, with a simple hood being enough to make him more inhuman.  And thus, from there, the Triggerman was born.

Is it wrong that when I saw this, it kind of reminded me of Assassin Creed's portrayal of Jack the Ripper and a hooded KKK member? Because both sure inspired some fear if you ever saw them coming.

Like that your villain character considers himself an "artist of crime." Not doing it out of the usual criminal desires, but simply just to prove that he can do it. I can see him being a threat to the hero community if their not careful, and worse, inspire other people to his style of crime.

I guess for someone like him, he has to be a loner since everybody would be scared to touch him with a ten foot pool.

I think what also really sells the design is the blue trenchcoat. Its looks beyong good on him. Adding a matching hat to him would make him look even cooler, but that can be optional.

Also love the dirtied/sullied shoes with the metal plated tips looks good on him as well.

A nuanced bronze-aged DC approach to some jobber with amazing powers like Bushwhacker.

Good work.
