Description Description:

The government of Canada is passing legislation known as bill C-16 that is supposed to protect people from harassment and discrimination based on their “gender identity”. Among the many problems with this bill, one of the more ridiculous ones is that one could be charged with discrimination for not using a person’s preferred gender-neutral pronouns. I honestly have no objection to having one set of gender-neutral pronouns to cover intersex and transgender people. However, I have seen tables in various places on the internet that have six or more sets of pronouns listed and it is getting ridiculous. I would also like to point out that these are third person pronouns like ‘he’ and ‘she’. You use these pronouns when you are talking about one or more people who are not part of your conversation. If you are actually speaking to someone, you are going to either address the person by his or her name or use a second person pronoun like ‘you’ or ‘your’.
