I love him soooo much!! He's so good to Saya. I think she's horrible because of all the wrong she's done to him, but I like the pairing because he deserves to have her.

I don't think she's horrible. Β She was caught in a war with little ability to consider the idea of a future at all much less a romantic one. Β She did do a lot of wrong by him. Β But it was born out of having her dreams absolutely crushed and her hopes dashed to where she thought it futile to really consider the idea of any happiness. Β So how could she give him any in return when she had none? Β Even if she could acknowledge his care for her, they both knew there wasn't any time. Β
Remember, she had made Haji promise a long time before to kill her when it was all over because she saw the horror of their kind and what their blood did to the world and people around them. Β It took her a long time to come to terms with that and it took her being reminded what it means to live, to WANT to live. Β That only came when she was taken in by George and raised as her daughter. Β It was that family that had made her realize what it meant to be happy again and not ceaselessly fighting a war. Β Haji is a wonderful person but his main flaw has always been that he is a little too much of a doormat, giving her what she asks rather than what she truly needs. Β It's why he could never make her happy. Β Because, sometimes you gotta step up and be more than a tool. Β But he feels immense guilt and out of a burden of duty, does what he thinks she wants rather than asserting his own will and giving her what she (and he) needs in that moment. Β It takes both characters the course of the show to see their flaws and develop past them. Β She regains her hope and starts to dream about a future away from war. Β He asserts his place in her world and does what HE wants for once, in turn helping her recognize her own desires and helping her find her way. Β
Honestly, they're both beautiful characters in my opinion. Β
