I _love_ the illustration but not the layout. I'm sorry for bashing, but its a mix of 1990 and modern day web design.
Go for a bit bigger font-size and wider textbox and for compensating the lost view of the illustration maybe a transparent bg for the textbox.
Sorry for ranting but I have one of those days.

I think your offer to make the background transparent is good, I will see how the layout appears with it. But I think the font-size and the size of the box is okey, it's just a private website and doesn't have that much content and if you need to have a bigger font-size you can change the adjustment of your browser.
